Oh, what a term it’s been. 6L launched into Term 2 with energy, enthusiasm and a strong passion for learning. We’ve tackled big ideas, grown our skills, and collaborated with curiosity. From persuasive writing and real-world maths to exploring the mysteries of space, every week has brought exciting challenges and meaningful moments. It’s been a term to remember—and it’s not over yet.
Literacy: Powerful Writing & Morphology
In writing, we’ve been creating hybrid texts that blend persuasive and factual features. We've expanded our vocabulary by experimenting with modal language, nominalisation, and rich Tier 2 and Tier 3 words. This has helped us write bold, thoughtful paragraphs that inform and influence our readers. In spelling, we’ve explored Greek roots like dyna, gram, logy and hydr, unlocking the meanings of many tricky words across all subjects.
Mathematics: Measuring Up
This term, we’ve explored the concept of mass. We’ve learned to:
- Record equivalent units using grams and kilograms;
- Interpret quantities using decimal notation; and
- Solve problems involving conversions and comparisons.
With hands-on tasks, group discussions and reasoning challenges, 6L is growing in confidence and accuracy using measurement in practical ways.
Science: Natural Forces & Outer Space
Science has taken us from the depths of natural disasters to the wonders of space. We studied how earthquakes, floods and cyclones affect the Earth’s surface and how people use technology to stay safe.
Then, we journeyed into space, investigating the solar system, comparing planets, and learning how light helps us observe celestial bodies.
We also explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, discovering how the night sky guides cultural traditions, navigation and survival.
Looking Ahead
From teamwork in the classroom to discoveries across the galaxy, Term 2 in 6L has been packed with growth and purpose. As the holidays approach, we’re proud of how far we’ve come—and excited for what’s ahead.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
Auburn North Public School enjoyed perfect sunny weather for our annual Athletics Carnival, held at Wests Track and Field Athletics Club in Lidcombe. Both students and staff had a fantastic time running, jumping, and throwing throughout the day.
The carnival was filled with memorable moments and a lively, supportive atmosphere. With an emphasis on participation and friendly House competition, students rose to the challenge—showcasing their talents, whether well-known or newly discovered, and striving to achieve their personal best.
All students demonstrated resilience by engaging in a range of tabloid activities, as well as the 100m and 200m sprints. Their determination and energy were on full display, and the support they gave each other was a highlight of the day.
Our House Captains played an important leadership role throughout the event, encouraging and guiding their teams.
“Encourage the students to cheer on their housemates!” said Waheedullah.
“Stay strong and don’t give up,” added Khaleel, capturing the spirit of perseverance shown by many on the day.
Minha from 6L reflected on her leadership experience with pride:
“When I was chanting, I felt really happy. We helped the students know where to go and kept everything running smoothly.”
From 6I, Halit reflected on how crowd support made a real impact:
“When students are cheering, the runners can feel the energy as they’re racing.”
Zahraa, also from 6I, highlighted the importance of encouragement after each race:
“Every time students finished their races, my House Captains and I would congratulate them. It felt really good!”
Congratulations to Boronia House, who took the lead in the K–2 events, and to Banksia House, winners of the 3–6 division!
On behalf of the Athletics Committee—Ms Bravo, Ms Lee, Ms Pham, Ms Ng, and Ms Luk—we sincerely thank the Auburn North community for coming together to make this event such a wonderful success. A big thank you to Frank and Ray for packing and unloading our equipment and to our Ambassadors of First Impressions for ensuring the physical wellbeing of our staff and students on the day.
See you next year!
