Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you and your families are well and enjoyed a happy two-week holiday together.
We believe this new term will prove to be one of our school’s most dynamic and successful terms for our students, staff and parents.
STUDENTS ARE GOING FOR GOLD!
I am sure you and your children have been watching all the excitement of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. All the outstanding Olympic athletes from around the world have been trying to the best of their ability to ‘GO FOR GOLD!’
Just like these athletes, this term we really want our K-6 students to ‘GO FOR GOLD’.
By the end of this term, we hope all students have done what is necessary to be awarded a:
- GOLD BADGE.
- GOLD CERTIFICATE for receiving 30 commendations. They already would have been awarded a Bronze certificate for 10 commendations and a Silver certificate for 20 commendations.
I know this term our 640 champion students will not only GO FOR GOLD but will be AWARDED GOLD.

- We also believe students need to live and breathe our six school values of respect, kindness, fairness, honesty, friendship, and responsibility.
Our school learning community has believed and continues to believe that if our students are going to develop this skill set and if they are going to live and breathe our school's values then our leaders, teachers and parents need to develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to assist our young people grow into successful adults. Therefore, our leaders, teachers and parents must participate in quality programs to assist them develop the necessary confidence, knowledge and skills.

1VE Newsletter
Welcome to Term 3! We hope you enjoyed a wonderful break with your families and friends.
It has been such a fantastic year so far in 1VE with endless possibilities for learning and fun.
Please keep reading to find out all the wonderful things that we have been doing.

Literacy:
In literacy groups we have been learning how to write persuasive texts. We have been reading from a wide variety of rich texts and responded to each text weekly with persuasive letters. We learnt to persuade our audience with a specific point of view and even used high modality words!
For example, we read the book, ‘Louie and Snippy', and 'Save the Sea’ by Collette Dinnigan. The book was about a boy and his dog who try to protect and preserve the ocean and sea creatures. Students had the opportunity to plan excellent ideas and write outstanding letters with persuasive reasons.
All the students in 1VE produced high quality letters which were super engaging.
This term, we will be moving onto narratives. We are so excited to put our creative hats on for this unit of work.
We have loved reading and writing so far and we are so proud of the progress we have made.

Numeracy:
During our numeracy lessons in Term 1 and Term 2, 1VE have been exploring and investigating everything mathematics.
We started off with using strategies and skills to instantly recall number bonds of five and 10. This was quite tricky, as it required students to develop an understanding of addition and problem solving. However, with perseverance and determination, 1VE students have confidently mastered this skill. Go 1VE!
Did you know that our favourite game to play in 1VE is ‘Buzz Off Hairy Legs’.
We skip count by 2’s and 10’s, explore different number patterns and apply our mathematical skills all while having a great time!
We also made graphs by collecting data on our favourite TV characters. From the data collected, 1VE came to the conclusion that ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ was a favourite character amongst our class. We then tallied this information into our books and represented our findings. This was a fantastic learning experience.
Ms Van Vuuren and Mrs Eris have really enjoyed the amazing results our students have produced with their hard work and determination in Semester 1. We are excited to continue this learning as we begin the new term full of engaging learning experiences for our students.

Class Report 6I
Semester one has seen the students of 6I taking off and soaring by doing their best and a little bit more. Some of our key highlights include Peer Support with our KO buddies, National Simultaneous Storytime, using our 21st Century skills of creativity and collaboration to design and construct sculptures out of recycled materials, and making speeches on a topic of interest which provided us with the opportunity to further develop our self-confidence when presenting in front on an audience.

Literacy
In Term 2, students read, viewed and analysed the text ‘Matilda' and wrote chapter reviews in both a guided and independent capacity. They read the text ‘Matilda’, which was written by the world-renowned author Roald Dahl, and watched both the musical and the movie. By reading and viewing these three texts, students were able to identify similarities and differences within these texts. The students of 6I further developed their skills in locating and analysing descriptive and figurative language features, which they then included in their chapter reviews.
The students of 6I continued to work collaboratively and successfully within their Literacy groups. Students engaged in high-quality spelling, grammar, reading and writing lessons. The students of 6I are looking forward to engaging with quality narrative texts and writing their own narratives in Term 3.

Numeracy
Semester one saw the students of 6I develop a deeper understanding across all areas of mathematics. Some of the areas the students focused on in Term 2 included fractions, decimals and percentages, adding and subtracting decimal numbers, calculating missing numbers in number sentences and adding fractions with related denominators.
The students of 6I began their maths lessons by completing four maths mentals questions and then we continued our lessons moving through modelled, guided and independent learning.
One highlight for the students has been the lessons where students complete an ALES task. This allows the students to get deep into the learning pit and use their learnt skills to complete a set task. They always display a focused approach and active learning skills, which has been a focus within the 6I classroom.
The students of 6I and Mrs Irrgang are looking forward to another successful and fun semester of learning.
