Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you and your families are well.
As you know, today is the final day of this term. We have achieved outstanding success this term in areas such as student wellbeing, student learning, leadership development, teacher professional development, and parent participation.
This term has been a term of highlights. Some of these highlights are listed below. However, my highlight of this 10-week term has taken place at Auburn North over the past two weeks.
My term’s highlight has been our recent Three-Way-Conferences. I have loved watching and listening to students, teachers and parents discussing and celebrating student achievements and collaboratively setting goals for achievement in term 4.
Three of our school’s values were ‘front and centre’ during each conference. Parents, students and teachers spoke to each other in such a kind and respectful manner and students took responsibility for achieving their term 4 goals.
I would like to congratulate all students, all staff, and all parents on working together so cohesively and effectively this term to ensure it has been so successful for all members of our Auburn North FAMILY, especially our wonderful students who really are SOARING by doing their best and a little bit more.

But, of course, the major highlight this term for everyone has been the excellent teaching and learning that have taken place in every classroom every minute of every school day because that is the ‘Auburn North Way’.
Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) Winter Competition
When Auburn North students are in Years 4, 5 and 6 they can play in one or some of our school’s Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) teams. This involves training with their coaches during the week, representing their school every Friday for two terms, and playing sports with students from other Auburn network public schools.
There is a summer competition that is played in term 1 and term 4 and a winter competition that is held in term 2 and term 3. Our winter competition has just concluded.
The junior and senior netball teams were coached by Mrs Varley. The girls’ soccer team was coached by Ms Fahy. The junior and senior boy’s soccer teams were coached by Ms Wilkins. The junior and senior newcombe ball teams were coached by Ms Ng.
I would like to congratulate all players on increasing their levels of fitness, improving their sporting skills, always playing to the best of their ability, and for demonstrating our school values as they made new friends from other schools.
Both the junior and senior Newcombe ball teams made it through to the grand-final, only to lose by a few points. Congratulations girls and boys and Ms Ng.
The junior soccer team also made it to the grand-final. The score was 0-0 at full-time so our team and the other school’s team were both declared competition champions. Congratulations boys and Ms Wilkins.
I would like to thank Ms Fahy, Mrs Varley, Ms Wilkins and Ms Ng for devoting so much time to provide our students with lifelong memories.
Please find attached to this newsletter excellent PSSA reports that have been written by these coaches.

I would like to thank our Auburn North office team, our leaders, our teachers, and Mr Frank, Mr Ray, and Johnny for their commitment to the wellbeing and learning of our students. THANK YOU, ANPS STAFF TEAM.
I would like to thank our parents for their support this term and I would like to congratulate our students on their commitment to always doing their best and wanting to achieve excellence in each of their school pursuits.
I hope all members of the Auburn North FAMILY enjoy a happy and safe holiday and we look forward to all students returning to school on Monday 14th October. There is NO pupil-free day next term.

On Monday the 9th September and Tuesday the 10th September, Serenity Nafoi-Falelua, a student in Year 6 and our school captain, played in the Sydney West representative team at the NSWPSSA Primary Rugby Union – Girls 7s. The games were held in Camden and Serenity was supported by her parents, an aunty and uncle, her grandparents and siblings.
Last week, we received an email from the manager of the team, who thought it was important to share the results but more importantly, to highlight to us, as a school, how well Serenity conducted herself across the two days. Serenity and her team were successful in attaining a bronze medal at the end of the championship.
Below are some of the key points that were included in the email
“Serenity showed tenacity, strength and determination throughout each game across both days of the championship. Her sportsmanship and ability to pick herself up after a setback is commended. Serenity’s encouragement lifted each player to perform to their best, which in turn boosted the overall spirit and fight of the team”.
“I would like to commend Serenity on her efforts and sportsmanship as she was an integral part of our team”.
Congratulations Serenity on representing yourself and our school so well and to your team on such a fantastic result.
Further to Serenity’s success with the Sydney West NSWPSSA team, she is headed to Japan on the 20th September with the Australian Raptors Rugby Academy, to play as member of the mixed Rugby 9s team in the Under 12s Hero Cup. Serenity will be playing against Japanese Rugby 9s teams, as well as enjoying some of the sights that Japan has to offer. Serenity was selected by the coach of this team after observing her play in her other games.
While Serenity is looking forward to representing Australia, she is also looking forward to visiting an amusement park in Japan, as well as tasting some of the delicious foods Japan has to offer.
The Auburn North family wishes Serenity the best of luck and safe travels to both Serenity and her mother. We are looking forward to hearing about the memories Serenity has created and about all of the fun that she had in Japan.
Mrs Irrgang

Class Report 4O:
4O has had an amazing three terms so far this year and is looking forward to another fantastic term! I am so proud to be the classroom teacher of such respectful, responsible students who work to the best of their ability every day.
Literacy:
In year 4 this term we have been tapping into our creativity and honing our vocabulary, reading and writing skills to craft imaginative texts. Our literacy groups provide the students with a supported space focused on developing each student's skills through targeted challenges. Here, students feel empowered to engage in deep discussions about texts and collaborative projects.
It has been a privilege and a joy to see how far our students have progressed in their learning over the course of the term and year.
In our literacy groups we have been delving into story mountains to create engaging narratives. The students have been working diligently to discover their author’s voice while crafting their stories. Together, we have explored the ‘show, don’t tell’ technique, which has made our narratives both entertaining and enjoyable to read. We have also learned about various figurative language features including similes, metaphors, personification, and idioms, enriching our writing with these tools.
By combining these elements with the grammar we’ve mastered, students have been able to present their ideas coherently in their narratives.
Our incredible students have tirelessly sculpted their stories and we couldn’t be prouder.
Numeracy:
In term 3, 4O has been immersed in a rich array of mathematical concepts. We have had a focus on the nine times tables while also practising all the other times tables we have learnt so far. 4O has excelled in this challenge, reinforcing their knowledge through engaging games, songs and activities.
We have also been mastering our strategies for addition and subtraction, always aiming to choose the most effective approach. In 4O, we feel confident selecting between the jump, split or algorithm strategies to tackle our mathematical problems.
We had a fantastic time embracing our inner mathematicians and testing our theories. One standout area was our exploration of volume and capacity. Students skilfully measured 100mls of water in a measured vessel marking their own integers as they investigated the capacities of different bottles. This hands-on activity allowed them to compare the volumes of various vessels with confidence.
Additionally, our budding mathematicians excelled in examining fractions greater than one whole, discovering multiple ways to represent these concepts.
We’re excited for another engaging and enjoyable term of maths in term 4.
4O spotlight:
This term many of our students have been thriving in our winter PSSA sports: soccer, netball and newcombe ball. Our teams have represented the school with pride, showcasing respect and responsibility while playing with other schools.
Meanwhile, our non-PSSA students have also been engaged in an exciting sporting program. We’ve been lucky to have coaches from Wolves Sports Association join us to teach basketball skills through games and drills. Everyone has had a fantastic time perfecting their shooting and learning the essential rules of the game.
These students have shown fairness, sportsmanship, and respect each week.

Girls’ PSSA Soccer Team Exemplifies Responsibility and Character – Ms. Fahy
It was a great privilege for me to have coached our girls’ soccer team in term two and three this year. The girls consistently demonstrated exceptional responsibility both on and off the field, embodying one of Auburn North Public School’s core values with great dedication. Their commitment to punctuality and preparedness for training sessions was commendable, as they consistently arrived on time and ready to give their best. This sense of responsibility extends beyond the field, as the team meticulously met all expectations when leaving the school grounds for away games, ensuring a smooth and orderly process.
Moreover, the team's skill in character shines brightly even in the face of defeat. Despite the challenges of competitive play, they handled losses with grace and resilience, showing sportsmanship and support for one another. We were frequently complemented by other schools for this character, which made me proud beyond measure! This positive attitude not only fostered a strong team spirit but also set a stellar example for our entire school community of future soccer players. Many of our girls had never played prior to trying out but this never stopped them from giving it their all, even hosting additional training sessions on the oval without my knowledge!
We had such a wonderful time together and have made memories that we will all treasure!

Boys’ PSSA Soccer Team Demonstrates Outstanding Friendship and Collaboration - Ms Wilkins
The boys’ soccer season was a testament to the power of friendship. From the first whistle to the final match, the team became a tight-knit group of friends, bonding both on and off the field. The senior boys took the younger players under their wing, offering mentorship and guidance. They cheered each other on during games, celebrated every goal, and consoled one another after tough losses. The friendships formed crossed grade levels, creating a sense of belonging and unity within the team. Even with opposing teams, they demonstrated sportsmanship, extending a hand to help opponents up and check on their well-being, especially when the other teams had injured themselves. It was a heartwarming display of friendship that extended beyond the confines of the school.
The boys’ success on the field was a direct result of their remarkable collaboration and teamwork. They worked together seamlessly, coordinating passes, strategising plays, and navigating the opposing team's defense. When a player expressed a desire to try a new position, the team readily adapted, demonstrating flexibility and understanding. As a result, a lot of boys had a chance to play a new position like goalkeeper or defender. Some boys even discovered a hidden talent for their new position, which would not have been possible without the collaboration of the team to rotate through positions.
The team's willingness to try new things and support each other's growth was a key factor in their success. The seniors were just one point away from reaching the semi-finals, a testament to their dedication and collaborative spirit.
The junior team excitingly achieved equal first with Lidcombe Public School. Their shared passion for the sport and their willingness to work together towards a common goal created an unforgettable season filled with growth, friendship, and unforgettable memories.

Junior and Senior PSSA Newcombeball Teams Exhibit Respect and Communication - Miss Ng
It has been an absolute privilege being the coach of our Junior and Senior Newcombe Ball teams this season, and watching these students grow and embody the values of respect and communication has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
The journey was filled with dedicated training sessions, strategic game-planning, and countless moments of encouragement and support from each other. Each player brought their unique strengths to the team, and it was amazing to see how they complemented each other on and off the court.
As their coach, I felt immense pride with how respectful they were towards me, each other and to the students of other schools. Their respect for each other and their opponents was evident in every match. They played with integrity, always acknowledging good plays from each other and the other team and maintaining a positive attitude, even in challenging situations.
Communication was undoubtedly one of the keys to their success this season. The players constantly spoke positively to each other, called out plays, offered support, and kept the energy high each week. This strong communication not only improved their performance but also created a cohesive and supportive team environment.
Reaching the grand final was a culmination of all their efforts and a testament to their hard work and dedication. The excitement and determination in their eyes were unforgettable. They played to the best of their abilities, and regardless of the outcome, they left the court with their heads held high, knowing they had given it their all.
Coaching these teams have been an absolute joy this year. Their passion for the sport and their commitment to each other have created long-lasting memories and set a high standard for future teams. I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and succeed in all aspects of their sporting life.
