Newsletter Volume 17 term 4 2024
Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you and your families are well.
It’s hard to believe but we only have three school weeks left until the end of this school year. This year has gone very quickly and it has been so successful for our students, staff, parents, and our united and harmonious school learning community.
Until the end of the school year our staff will continue to encourage our students to behave beautifully, to live and breathe our school values of respect, honesty, kindness, fairness, friendship, and responsibility, and continue to work very hard so they receive an excellent semester 2 report and are well-prepared to succeed from the beginning of the 2025 school year.
ADDITIONAL SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAYS/PUPIL-FREE DAYS
The Department of Education has decided to increase the number of school development days from the beginning of the 2025 school year. These days have been and will continue to be pupil-free days.
This decision was made by the Department to assist teachers with their ever-increasing workload.
In 2025 all NSW public primary schools and high schools will have a total of eight school development days. On these days all teachers will be in their schools participating in professional learning programs or collaboratively developing teaching and learning programs.
The dates of these 2025 school development days/pupil-free days are:
Term 1
Friday 31st January – Wednesday 5th February (four days) – students return on Thursday 6th February
Term 2
Monday 28th April – Tuesday 29 April (2 days) – students return on Wednesday 30th April
Term 3
Monday 21st July (1 day) – students return on Tuesday 22nd July
Term 4
Monday 13th October (1 day) – students return on Tuesday 14th October
Therefore, in Term 1 next year the first school day for all K-6 Auburn North students will be THURSDAY 6th FEBRUARY.
Camp Australia will not be operating their before and after school programs at our school on any of the eight school development days.
However, Camp Australia will be operating vacation care programs at Berala Public School and Regents Park Christian School for families who would like to utilise this service.

Dari Community Language Class Report
It has been an amazing term 4 and a fantastic year for Dari students in Dari Community Language classes.
More than 96 K-6 Dari students have participated in the program this year. All students have improved in all areas of Dari Language.
Dari Kindergarten students have also enjoyed making new friends from different classes in Dari lessons, which has helped them grow both socially and emotionally.
In semester 1 (term 1 and term 2) the following EVEN grades attended the Dari community Language classes:
- Kindergarten
- Year 2
- Year 4
- Year 6

In semester 2 (term 3 and term 4) of this year, the following ODD grades attended Dari Community Language lessons:
- Kindergarten
- Year 1
- Year 3
- Year 5

Every Dari student receives 2 hours of their mother language learning in a week in an encouraging, fun filled and friendly environment.
Kindergarten students have been learning about “Farm Animals” and “Body Parts” in semester 1 and 2 respectively.

Stage 1 students have been excited to learn more about “Workers/Helpers in the Community” and “Growing and Changing” in semester 1 and 2 respectively.
Stage 2 students have learnt about “Health and Hygiene” and “Effects of Growing and Changing” in semester 1 and 2 respectively.
Stage 3 students have also been motivated to learn more about ‘Dari Literature and Cultural Diversity’ and ‘Traditions and Practical Cultural Lessons’ in semester 1 and 2 respectively.

Alongside these topics, Dari students have been improving their knowledge and abilities in all four components of their home language. The components are talking, listening, reading, and writing from different resources in Dari and Farsi languages.
Like other students at ANPS, Dari students love to come to school, and enjoy their learning and having fun with their friends every day.
The photos above show some Dari students in action.
Thank you so much for your time and attention to read my Dari Community Language report.

PSSA Report
Term 4 marked the start of the highly anticipated PSSA Summer season for our year 4-6 students at Auburn North Public School. Despite some weather related delays at the beginning of the term, our basketball, AFL, T-ball, and cricket teams were eager to play with other schools. Our season officially began in Week 3 and all our teams demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination. All teams have been training diligently each week, committing their time and energy to improve their skills.
Our students have not only represented Auburn North with pride but have also demonstrated the values of working together as a team: fairness, kindness, and respect. After each PSSA game, whether it be a win or a loss, our students have consistently displayed a cheerful and supportive attitude.
This positive spirit has fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and has made each game a memorable experience. Additionally, they have displayed exemplary behaviour when playing with other schools, demonstrating fairness and respect both on and off the field.

We are incredibly proud of all our PSSA participants. A special thank you to our dedicated coaches for their tireless efforts in supporting our students.
