Dear Parents,
AUBURN NORTH
IS A
WORLD-CLASS SCHOOL
During the recent school holiday I had the absolute privilege of visiting some excellent primary schools and high schools in Canada and Finland. The purpose of the visits was to learn from these excellent overseas schools to assist Auburn North become an even better school and to provide me with information to write a report and develop a school and teacher resource that will be published next year.
The title of the report will be “THE WAY FORWARD: Best-Practice Policies, Programs and Practices to Assist New South Wales Newcomer Students Achieve Outstanding Emotional, Social, and Learning Outcomes.”
The report will be a culmination of what I have learned from NSW public schools over many years and what I learned from these excellent Canadian and Finnish schools in terms of how they very successfully support their students who have arrived in their countries in the past one or two years, and how they assist these students achieve outstanding outcomes.
I selected Canada and Finland to visit because their education systems and their schools are acknowledged as being amongst the world’s best systems and schools. During my visits to individual schools, my discussions with school leaders and teachers, and my observations of classroom lessons I learned that the Finnish and Canadian education systems and schools are indeed amongst the very best in the world.
I learned something else that was also very important. I learned that Auburn North Public School is a WORLD-CLASS SCHOOL in all areas but especially in the following areas:
- School Leadership
- Teaching
- Stimulating Classroom Learning Environments
- Student Engagement and Learning
- Parent Participation
- School Organisation
- Large, attractive play fields
- Developing a sense of Community and developing a harmonious, unified, happy school learning community.
I also learned that our school administration team (ie our office team) is also world-class.
I look forward to writing the final report and developing the resource and making them available to all NSW schools and the Finnish and Canadian schools that were kind enough to open their doors to me. I hope the report and resource will assist newcomer students, including our newcomer students, achieve even better emotional, social and learning outcomes.

I know all members of our school learning community are very excited about our upcoming Community Festival Day (CFD) program next Thursday 31 October. Kindergarten Enrolment 2020
Years 1 – 3 NAP Group
We have had a very busy start to term 4 and we are loving it! This term will be focussing on writing informative texts on variety of Australian animals. We will also be reading fun stories which have Australian Animals in them such as Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan and Possum Magic by Mem Fox. In week 1 we wrote about kangaroos and focussed on their appearance, diet, habitat and interesting facts.
Here are just a few of our amazing pieces of writing, we hope you enjoy reading our informative reports on kangaroos.

Every morning in our New Arrival group we engage in a variety of literacy based experiences. These highly engaging experiences focus on enhancing our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Below are just some literacy activities which all NAP students engage in daily.
During literacy groups we participate in activities like alphabet puzzles, writing spelling words and sentences, guided reading groups and speaking and listening activities.

In 4T, students have been focussing on their typing skills through Typing Tournament, a program designed to allow students to practice their typing. Students go through a series of games and challenges that tests their speed on identifying the letters on a keyboard using the correct hand and finger placements. 4T have really enjoyed using Typing Tournament to practise their typing skills and every single student has demonstrated a massive improvement since beginning the program!

The first thing we did was board the big bus which took us to the farm. When we arrived, we listened to Farmer Josh as he told us all about the animals they care for on the farm. We then went for a walk around the farm to meet the animals. We fed bread to the goats and the sheep. We also went into the animal pen to pet the baby animals. One of the most exciting parts of the day was getting to milk the huge dairy cow, Sassy. After we had lunch, we got to feed the baby animals their lunch too! They loved drinking the milk that we bottle fed them. The last thing we did was cuddle and pet lots of tiny animals, including a duckling, a rabbit, and a chick.
We were all very tired when we arrived back at school after such a big day meeting all of the animals on the farm. Now we are back at school we are using all of the knowledge we have about farm animals in our learning!
