Dear Parents,
On behalf of the Auburn North Public School staff I would like to welcome our students and parents back to Auburn North, including our new students in Year 1 to Year 6 and their families. I would especially like to welcome our 2020 Kindergarten students and their families into our school community.
I would like to thank all of you for ensuring your children began their new school year well-rested, immaculately dressed in their school uniforms, and excited about the new school year ahead.
At the end of last year a senior officer from the NSW Department of Education described our school’s 2019 school results as “PHENOMENAL”. I proudly agreed. Our results last year in each of the following areas were phenomenal:
- Leadership
- Teaching
- Teacher Professional Development
- Student Learning
- Parent Engagement
- School Cohesiveness and Unity
Our excellent results in each area was the result of the way in which all members of our multi-award-winning Auburn North Public School Learning Community had worked together tirelessly and in perfect harmony during each of the four terms.
While 2019 was very successful we have planned for 2020 to be even more successful for our students, our staff, our parents, and our school.
In 2017 our school learning community collaboratively developed our three-year 2018 – 2020 school vision, mission statement, strategic directions, and school plan. For the past two years we have been strategically and methodically utilising our people, programs, and practices (3Ps) to ensure that our vision will become a reality by the end of the 2020 school year.
OUR SCHOOL’S 2018 – 2020 VISION STATEMENT
Our school’s 2018 – 2020 Vision Statement is:
'Our Vision is to be Australia's most outstanding future-focused learning community.'
For our new parents I’d like to explain what we mean by ‘future-focused’. At Auburn North our students, staff and parents believe if our students are going to be successful now and in the future then they need to develop outstanding knowledge and skills in three main areas. We believe our students need to develop outstanding;
- Basic Skills in literacy and numeracy.
- Technology Skills.
- 21st Century Skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, communication and collaboration.
To assist our school achieve its Vision and assist our K-6 students develop all of these skills we developed and are strategically implementing a detailed 2018-2020 School Plan that includes a Mission Statement and three Strategic Directions.
The School Plan, Mission Statement, and Strategic Directions are providing our learning community with the FOUNDATION that will underpin our initiatives and programs until the end of 2020 and ensure that our Vision becomes a reality.
Our Mission Statement is:
'Our mission is to provide an extraordinary education, inspired by expert teachers and leaders, in partnership with supportive families.'
Our three Strategic Directions are:
- To engage all students to maximise learning outcomes.
- To engage teachers and leaders in high impact professional learning.
- To engage families as partners in learning.

There is also information on how to download the SZapp in this link and attachment with the newsletter.
The online version of the newsletter allows for users to translate the information into more than one hundred different languages. It also allows you to see all the wonderful photos in full colour and they can be enlarged on the device you are viewing the newsletter on.
Paper copies of the newsletter will continue to be sent home with your child fortnightly.
TEMPORARY CLASSES
While our students began learning as soon as they entered their classrooms this year, please understand that their classes in week one and week two were temporary classes. As a result of new Y1 – Y6 students enrolling in our school this year and because some of our students moved to different suburbs during the holidays, our total student enrolment number is significantly different to our anticipated figure.
All NSW public schools are required to submit their actual enrolment figures to the NSW Department of Education (DoE) late next week (week 3) or in week 4. The DoE then informs schools, including Auburn North, how many classes they are entitled to form.
We expect that changes will be necessary. If we don’t make changes some classes in some grades will have far more students than other classes in the same grade. This would not be fair.
Final changes will take place next week or in week 4 and parents whose children will move from one class to another class will be informed of the change.
STAFF INFORMATION
We welcome Mrs Cheeseman and Mrs Cox back to Auburn North. For the past three years, Mrs Cheeseman has been fulfilling a leadership role across our District and Mrs Cox has been on maternity leave for the past two years. Welcome back Mrs Cheeseman and Mrs Cox.
We are very pleased that Ms Sandy Elias, will continue to be our school counsellor this term.
We would like to especially welcome Mrs Jenan Zreika to Auburn North. Mrs Zreika is our new permanent Arabic community language teacher and she will be teaching each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
We would like to congratulate Ms Collins who was married during the holiday.
Unfortunately we had to say "Farewell" to Ms Wadhwana last Friday. Ms Wadhwana was offered and accepted a full-time teaching position in a school closer to her home and she began in her new school this week.
During her three years at Auburn North, Ms Wadhwana's caring and nurturing nature and her quality teaching skills had a very positive impact on the students in her classes and across our K-6 school community.
