Dear Parents,
You may have noticed that one of our school’s digital sign messages this week was:
“Beautiful Students,
Parents and Staff.
We Are So Lucky.”
I certainly feel lucky coming to Auburn North every school day. Every day I am surrounded by beautiful students, staff and, until COVID-19 restrictions commenced, I was surrounded by beautiful parents.
At the beginning of this year Ms Ashleigh Cumming, a teacher from England, was selected to teach at Auburn North during term 1 and term 2 this year. In a short period of time, Ms Cummings was able to have a wonderful impact on our school’s students and staff.
Ms Cumming had to complete her teaching time in Australia last week to return to her home in England. However, before she did she wrote the following message on a card and judging by her comments she also felt lucky to be at Auburn North where she was surrounded by beautiful people.
Dear Auburn North Staff,
I would like to say a massive thank you for all of your support during my time at ANPS. I felt truly welcomed to the family as soon as I walked through the gates, a prime example of the community ethos you create and the care that Auburn North offers to all.
The pupils are at the heart of the school and they are extremely lucky to have such committed staff, as we are fortunate to have them as our students.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with different classes and for trusting me with your wonderful students. Due to this experience I’ve been able to further develop my learning and gained more confidence as a teacher and colleague.
ANPS has been a very special part of my Australian adventure and I have many fond memories of my time here. I only wish I could have stayed longer.
Take care,
Ashleigh Cumming
TEACHER - PARENT TELEPHONE CONFERENCES
Judging by the feedback from teachers and comments made by our parents, last week’s Teacher-Parent Telephone Conferences were an outstanding success. I would like to thank the parents who took this opportunity to discuss their children’s progress with our ‘beautiful teachers’.
Feedback from Teachers included:
- "Speaking with our beautiful families was the highlight of my week."
- Teachers commented on the effectiveness of the reports being sent out a week prior to the conferences as this was a great talking point.
- Teachers enjoyed the lovely experience of talking with parents about their children’s wellbeing and learning.
- "It was a great opportunity to discuss outstanding progress."
- "We appreciated the time to connect and communicate with families to share updated learning achievements and student progression."
- "We thought requesting parents to have their child’s report and writing sample with them for the phone conference was of great benefit. This allowed the teacher to bring certain points to the parent’s attention to provide meaning to statements we were saying. Parents were well prepared by having these documents with them ready to discuss. Letting parents know on See Saw to expect a writing sample in their child’s bag was a successful strategy to inform parents of the purpose of sending this writing sample home.
- "Parents were able to relate to and agree with comments that teachers brought up, particularly after learning from home with their child."
- "All parents were very supportive and thankful for receiving updates on their child’s progress."
- "It was very positive to reconnect with families and continue to develop positive relationships with them."
- "It was great to share student successes from the semester and inform parents of goals for the rest of the year."
Parent comments that teachers shared with me included:
- "Parents were very thankful for being able to speak with the teacher and ask questions."
- "Parents were very proud to hear about their child’s progress."
- "Parents were seeking strategies to help their child at home."
- Parents were very supportive of our differentiated writing group program."
- "I have no words to express my thanks."
- "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing an education to my child."
- "I really appreciate the hard work you have put in to support our children."
- Parents commented on how grateful and appreciative they were that their children were part of such a dynamic and inclusive school.
- "Parents continued to mention how lucky their children were to have teachers like ourselves and how their children’s learning and wellbeing consistently develops."
- "Parents were extremely grateful to have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with their teacher. Parents were thankful to have their questions answered and their child’s report explained."
- "Many parents were surprised and so pleased to see how much progress their children had made considering the interruptions that have occurred this year."
- One parent posted the following comment on Twitter - “Our kids progress of learning was explained very clearly and was easy to understand. Teachers answered all our questions with patience!"
- "I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given my child."
- "I give full credit to all staff members at ANPS for my child’s education."
- "My children come home and talk about you all night long. It is clear that you have a deep relationship with them. I am so grateful and thankful."
I believe all members of our Auburn North FAMILY are so very lucky because we are all surrounded by:
- Beautiful Students;
- Beautiful Parents; and
- Beautiful Staff.
COVID-19 UPDATE
Parents and carers must ensure that their children do not come to school if they are unwell, even with very mild symptoms.
If a student has been absent due to flu like illness or develops flu like symptoms while at school, they are not to return to school until they have a negative COVID-19 test and are symptom free.
Mr Harris must sight the negative COVID-19 test result before a student can return to school.

Please find attached to this newsletter information reports that have been written by 1P students and Ms Pham, 3H students and Ms Hamm, and Mr Salempour and the students who attend Dari community language classes.

This term 3H have been participating in a series of lessons designed to help them develop their 6Cs.

We have been particularly focusing on the skills of collaboration and communication as we work effectively as a member of a team to solve a number of challenges. We have also been developing our sense of character as we learn to approach each new problem with a growth mindset. Some of the challenges included using clues to create a pattern using counters, recreating a model that only one team member had seen and solving a math problem that had a very tricky solution. 3H successfully tackled each challenge with a positive attitude and never gave up, no matter how hard it seemed!

What's been happening in 1P?
In maths, we have been learning to identify vertical, horizontal and parallel lines in pictures and the environment. We were inspired by Piet Mondrian and used different lines to create an artwork.

1P have been learning how to manipulate letters and sounds at the word, syllable and sentence level to develop phonological awareness skills. We participate in differentiated hands on phonics activities every morning in literacy rotations.

In sport, 1P participate in a range of opportunities that promote physical activity to develop our fundamental movement skill (FMS) of balance, stability and body control.
