Dear Parents,

WORLD TEACHERS DAY
Last Friday was ‘World Teachers Day’. This was a day when members of the world community were encouraged to take a few moments from their busy schedules to think about the important role teachers play in the development of young people.
I have said and written on a number of occasions that while I have worked with and seen thousands of primary school teachers and high school teachers in five different countries during my career, I am yet to find a school with a better team of teachers than Auburn North Public School.
This view was reinforced last year when during our NSW September/October school holiday I had the opportunity to spend a week visiting Canadian schools and a week visiting schools in Finland. While each of these schools was an excellent school and each school had an excellent team of teachers I did not visit a school where its teachers were as outstanding as Auburn North teachers in a range of areas including:
- Developing caring and mutually respectful relationships with all students.
- Motivating students to try their very best and achieve their very best.
- Engaging students in their learning.
- Using outstanding teaching practices and programs to assist students achieve excellent learning outcomes.
- Working together cohesively to produce a whole school learning community of the highest standard.
- Developing mutually respectful and trusting relationships with parents.
On World Teachers Day I asked some of our students about their teachers. Some of their comments included:
“Our teachers are very important because they are like our parents. They support us, they help our self-confidence, and they inspire us.”
“They teach us the fundamentals of life.”
“Our teachers work so hard and they teach with great enthusiasm.”
“I love that our teachers are so much fun and that they are creative.”
“Our teachers are so important because they teach us all the subjects. In life we need to know all the subjects because if you want to become a scientist you need to know science and our teachers teach us what we need to know during science lessons.”
“Our teachers are very generous. They explain and model all lessons in a way all children will understand.”
I’m sure these views of a few students reflect the views of each one of our K-6 students. I’m also sure that all Auburn North students are aware of how fortunate they are to be taught and nurtured by teachers who are the WORLD'S BEST.

This term 5R have been very busy with their learning! Students commenced term 4 with a determined attitude and positive mindset. We are working as one team to achieve our dream.
Math: Students used catalogues to order and budget a draft for the year 6 graduation. Everyone worked diligently to calculate items and subtract it from our budget of $1000. Once the budgets were completed, students then used Excel to transfer their written budget into electronic form.
Literacy: This term students are focusing on writing speeches. Students have been very creative in creating a high-quality speech. Students need to plan, research, write and edit their speech.
Science: Students are learning about adaptations; specifically, how different species change their structural and behavioural features.
Geography: 5R have been working on researching an Australian bushfire. They showed the 21st century skills by ensuring the information they located was accurate.
PDHPE: This term students have been learning about identity. They have learnt what factors can influence someone’s identity.
