Dear Parents,
I am very proud to inform you that:
- all K-6 students are continuing to focus on their learning and achieving outstanding outcomes so that they are ‘promoted’ to a higher grade in 2019 and will be well-prepared to succeed from the first day in their higher grades; and
- we continue to work as one team to achieve our individual and collective dreams.
Visit by Secretary
Last Friday week Mr Mark Scott, Secretary of the NSW Department of Education took time out from his busy schedule to visit our school for ninety minutes. The purpose of the visit was for Mr Scott to meet our students and staff and to learn more about our school’s programs and practices that have contributed to our school’s outstanding successes in leadership, teaching, learning and parent involvement.
During his visit, Mr Scott met all members of our school’s distributed leadership team who shared a range of information with him under the heading ‘Auburn North – A World Family Living and Learning Together in Perfect Harmony’.
The team explained how we had strategically utilised the Department’s 2018-2022 strategic plan and its vision, purpose, values and goals to provide the framework for the development of our school’s 2018-2020 Vision, Mission and School Plan that were collaboratively developed in second semester last year.
The team also proudly shared some of our school’s outstanding results including our 2018 NAPLAN results such as:
- Achieving in the Top 1% of all 1700 NSW public primary schools in terms of value-added student growth from both Kindergarten to Year 3 and from Year 3 to Year 5.
- Achieving in the Top 5% for Year 5 to Year 7 value-added learning growth.
During his visit Mr Scott also enjoyed lunch with all members of staff, met all students during a K-6 assembly where he presented Principal’s Awards to six Kindergarten students, and he listened to our new staff choir sing our School Song that was written by Mrs Bou-Risk.
Mr Scott also had the pleasure of listening to some of the students explain why they love being members of the Auburn North family. For your reading enjoyment I have included below what was explained to Mr Scott by some of our students.
‘The three main features that make Auburn North Public School so special for me are its students, teachers and our parents. Every day, students of Auburn North wake up with a big smile on their faces, excited to go to school, to learn and have fun. This is encouraged by the teachers who come here every day to help engage students in learning and prepare us to engage in school activities and school festivals. I love ANPS because it is an important part of my life. The moment I wake up every day I am proud to go to ANPS, as there are smiles surrounding me. I love this school because Auburn North is a multicultural place which has people who come from all over the world and who can speak many languages. This can help me to learn the way they live and I can teach them some things about my background. Being a family member of ANPS has been part of my life for the past seven years. Throughout these years I have learnt basic skills that will help me progress in life, skills such as English, maths and writing. I have also learnt how to communicate effectively with teachers and other students which will help me in my daily situations in the future. These features will be part of my life forever.’ Tabina – Year 6. |
‘Auburn North has had many positive impacts on me as an individual. In this school, I have learnt to embrace and collaborate with students from many other cultures and I have made friends with students from many different backgrounds. Auburn North has helped me discover and achieve my absolute best potential in the class and outside the classroom. Auburn North has made me a better person. The people at Auburn North are all so kind, supportive and caring and they have inspired me to be the same. In my eyes, Auburn North is certainly the ‘Best of All Worlds for 21st Century Learners.’ |
‘A special feature that I love about Auburn North is that it is very multicultural and you never know who is going to join our class family. They could be from any number of countries and backgrounds. I love that ANPS is always trying to improve, from building new classrooms to assisting students and parents become more involved in their school and in their learning. As a member of the Auburn North family I have learned to live by our values of Respect, Kindness, Honesty, Responsibility, Fairness and Friendship.’ Feaim – Year 6 |
‘Good Afternoon Mr Scott, I would like to explain briefly what I love most about our extraordinary school. Everywhere you go around our school you see teachers teaching and students collaborating together in perfect harmony. Auburn North Public School provides a safe and caring learning environment for every student regardless of their culture, background or skin colour. We celebrate our own and each other’s cultures every day but every two years our wonderful school community, including teachers, staff, parents and students come together and we all take part in a special event called ‘Community Festival Day’. On this day, our proud students perform different cultural dances and our lovely parents bring in all sorts of delicious cultural foods for us to try. What also makes Auburn North Public School so successful is our dedicated teachers. Our teachers’ ways and methods of teaching are mesmerising since we always learn new things and extend our minds beyond the box. Our teachers allow us to exceed our potential in the classroom and also in programs outside the classroom. Thanks to our kind and caring teachers who gave up a lot of their lunch times, this year I was excited to represent my school in the Granville Schools Spectacular, where over 60 of our choir and dance students performed at the Sydney Opera House in front of over 2000 people! Did I mention that my father and aunty attended this school a long time ago and that my sister Aleyna was one of the school captains in 2016? You could say that Auburn North is part of my family history. This multi-award-winning multicultural school really makes me and everyone feel special because we are the ‘Best of All Worlds’, we are always moving Forward, and we work as one happy team to achieve our dreams.’ Beyza – Year 5 |

Auburn Review Citizenship Award
Each year our school has the opportunity to nominate one Year 6 student who has been an outstanding school citizen to receive the ‘Auburn Review Citizenship Award’. Ms Cortejos, Ms McGrory, Mrs Varley and Ms West found it very difficult to select just one student from Year 6 as there were many students who met the criteria for selection. However, one student stood out as being an outstanding school citizen who always demonstrated the school values. We are very proud to say that the recipient of the 2018 Auburn Review Citizenship Award was Hussain from 6H.
Hussain and his very proud family were invited to a special ceremony in Week 4, where Citizenship Awards were presented to one student from each school in Auburn. Hussain, his family and Mr Harris beamed with pride as Hussain received his trophy and posed for photographs with other award recipients. It was a very special evening that we are certain Hussain and his family will remember for a very long time.
When Hussain received his special award, the presenters read the following reflection about what made him such an outstanding school citizen. This was written by Hussain’s teachers.
“Hussain is an enthusiastic and caring student who always strives to exceed his full potential academically, emotionally, socially, physically and technologically. He is a kind and generous friend to all students and is always willing to assist his teachers and peers. He consistently demonstrates our school values of respect, responsibility, friendship, fairness, kindness and honesty.
As a sports house captain, Hussain has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, especially when working with younger students. He has been a valued member of the PSSA Softball team. Hussain loves learning and actively encourages his peers to participate in all classroom and extra-curricular opportunities.
Hussain is a worthy recipient of the 2018 Auburn Review School Citizenship Award.”
We look forward to presenting Hussain with his trophy in front of all 3-6 students and many parents at our Presentation Day Assembly.
On behalf of the extended Auburn North family, I would like to congratulate Hussain and his family on this extraordinary achievement.
School Development Days – Term 4
School Development Days are vital to the ongoing professional development of all ANPS staff, and occur every term. During School Development Days students do not attend school. In Term 4 there are two allocated School Development Days, however schools are able to change these days with approval from the Director.
This year one of our Term 4 School Development Days will occur over two ‘twilight sessions’ during the term. This will replace the allocated School Development Day on Friday 21st December. Our two ‘twilight sessions’ are on Wednesday 14th November and Wednesday 28th November. On these days teachers will stay at school from 3:15pm – 6:15pm to engage in professional learning around the new Science and Technology Syllabus.
The second Term 4 School Development Day will be on Thursday 20th December.
The office will be open on Friday 21st December from 8:30am – 3:00pm.

Congratulations to the 86 Gold Badge recipients from the latest Gold Badge assembly.
All students who have received a Gold Badge this year will be attending the Gold Badge movie reward at Reading Cinemas on Monday 17 December.

KD have been learning all about Living and Non Living things in Science this term. This week we were so excited because we got to plant some seeds. We know that all plants need five important things to help them grow.
- Air
- Water
- Space
- Soil
- Sunlight
KD are making sure to water our special garden every day. We cannot wait to watch our plants grow and change.
KD will also be keeping a ‘Plant Diary’ over the next term so we are able to watch and record the different stages of our plants growth.

This semester our 3H geographers have been hard at work!
We have been using laptops to research all about Australia and its many features. We started by collaboratively researching each state, territory and capital city. We discovered their population, special landmarks and where they are located, so we could plot them on our maps. We also researched some of Australia’s deserts and discovered their names and where they are located. Well done 3H!
