Dear Parents,
I would like to congratulate all members of the Auburn North FAMILY, that is our students, staff and parents, on being selected as one of the ten NSW Department of Education’s (DoE) Ambassador Schools. We should ALL feel immense pride in being acknowledged by the DoE for our excellent achievements in the areas of Leadership, Teaching, Learning, and Parent Engagement over many years.
In a statement, NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said Ambassador Schools exemplified the excellent educational outcomes the NSW Government sought to deliver for all students. The Minister said,
"Ambassador Schools have proven, through their results, that the practices they are using make a huge difference for their students. What these schools are doing is effective, and this program will capture their methods to drive high performance in other schools across the state."
Ambassador Schools were selected for achieving above and beyond similar schools in NAPLAN tests. Please understand that at Auburn North we consider NAPLAN tests for year 3 and year 5 students and the data they show about our school and individual students are important however, we consider the student learning data our Kindergarten to year 6 teachers collect and analyse every day even more important.
As a NSW Ambassador School we will have the opportunity to:
- Learn with and from other high-performing schools so that we continue to become an even better school for our students, school leaders, teachers, and parents; and
- Partner with universities through two research centres, one in Sydney and one in regional NSW, to generate education research that can be shared across our system and around the world.
This week I received a very special letter from Adeena Mohammed, one of our year 2 students, and her parents, Mr Mohammed and Mrs Parveen. I think the letter and its sentiments express just how all members of the Auburn North FAMILY feel about our wonderful school learning community.
Please take the time to read the delightful letter that is reproduced below:
“To the Auburn North Family,
I am Adeena Mohammed from 2C. I would like to say Thank You to the Auburn North Family. Everyone here is so helpful. Our teachers and the staff are the best.
I am proud to be here and want to be the best student.
My parents are so proud and happy that Auburn North is among the top ten ambassador schools in NSW.
So, congratulations everyone from Adeena Mohammad and family.”
Mr Mohammed and Mrs Parveen added:
“It is an honour and privilege to be a part of Auburn North Public School. Congratulations.”
Of course, we should be proud of the special school learning community our students, staff and parents have developed and continue to develop however, I do believe we are just like all other NSW public schools where staff and parents work together strategically and in perfect harmony to assist students achieve outstanding wellbeing and learning outcomes.
We want to be the very best Auburn North we can be and we are excited about becoming even better in the future.

Welcome to 5R’s newsletter contribution!
This term we have been working very hard on our learning.
Writing
We have been focusing on expositions this term and have gained so much knowledge on how to independently plan and write an exposition.
Math
We learnt how to do long division! This was the first time we have been taught long division at school. We are definitely math wizards as we are even able to record any remainders as a fraction!
KLAs
In science we have been learning about geological changes and how it impacts our environment. We have become young researches and have spent time to find answers to some very important questions.
In history, we have been learning about convicts and how British settlers settled in Australia. It has been so fascinating and interesting.
In PDHPE, we have been learning about how to keep our bodies fit and healthy. We did an experiment to find out how much sugar was in the everyday foods that we consume. Did you know that there is 40grams of sugar in one coke can?

Mathematics
This week in mathematics, 1W have been learning to use the counting on strategy to add two numbers together. Students learnt how to use the symbols for plus and equals when writing their number sentence. All of 1W persevered to achieve the learning goal.

Reading
1W have been trying so hard to achieve their individual reading goals. Each morning, 1W engage in different literacy rotations where they are able to work on their sight words and complete a range of spelling activities. One of our favourite rotations is the phonics table, where boys and girls work collaboratively to complete a hands-on phonics activity.

History
This term in history, Year 1 are learning about how family life has changed over time. Students compared and contrasted their own families with earlier families through photographs. 1W recreated a photo from the past by taking it in black and white.

The 2021 Gold Badge program is underway. This week 64 deserving students received the very first Gold Badges for the year. Each year the Gold Badge is a different colour and this year's Gold Badge is purple. Students must meet the Gold Badge criteria included in this newsletter to receive their own purple Gold Badge.
