As you know, next week is the last week of this term and the last week of semester 1 (terms 1 and 2). In my 22 years at Auburn North I cannot remember a more outstanding semester of leadership, teaching, learning, school administration, and parent involvement I also cannot remember a semester where all members of our Auburn North FAMILY have worked together so positively and cohesively to assist all students achieve excellent wellbeing and learning outcomes.
Congratulations students, staff, and parents on your hard work and achievements over the past semester.
Some highlights this semester have included:

Student Reports - ‘A Celebration of Success’
Semester 1 Student Reports will go home next Thursday 24th June. I am sure your children will want to sit down with you that afternoon to proudly share their efforts and achievements with you.
I have greatly enjoyed reading and signing each report and it is very clear that our motivated students, our excellent teachers, and our supportive parents have developed very strong and harmonious relationships with one another to facilitate students to learn very effectively and successfully this semester. Their reports really are ‘A Celebration of Success.’

This term in 6H we have been learning all about the Federation of Australia. Students were able to research what it was like to live in the early colonies and created persuasive posters encouraging free settlers to immigrate to Australia. We also spent time preparing for a debate where students argued in support or opposition of Federation. Students have also looked at the impact that colonisation has had on First Nations people and created a lovely artwork in recognition of National Sorry Day. We also spent time analysing artworks related to the Stolen Generation and students were able to connect honestly with the artist’s message and draw valuable insight. It has been a very successful term of researching, learning, debating and reflecting on the history of our country.
What a fantastic term it has been for 1KL! Students have been working super hard to achieve their learning goals across all learning areas. They also had a blast dressing up in bright colourful clothes for “Shine Bright” Colourful Clothes Day.
Literacy
Students love engaging in their reading and writing groups every morning session. They have been working very hard to improve their reading levels and comprehension skills this term. Students know that comprehension is an important aspect of reading and are striving to implement a variety of reading strategies to make reading easier and more enjoyable for them.

Numeracy
During numeracy lessons, students have been learning about position. They were able to follow directions by putting objects in the correct position. They really enjoyed using the bluebots by using the left and right arrows to give directions to where they wanted the bluebots to go on the map.

Science
In science, students have been learning about the earth’s natural resources. Students looked at soil as a natural resource and got to plant a bean. They have been measuring the growth of their bean plant and have been making scientific observations on their growth on a weekly basis. Students used multilink cubes to measure the length of their bean plant and were amazed at their growth every week!
