Dear Parents,
Two weeks’ ago I attended a principal’s conference in the NSW Department of Education’s new head office in Parramatta. During the morning tea break another principal approached me and asked “Do you know that Auburn North has developed a reputation as the best school in NSW?” After hearing this comment from a fellow principal I certainly was feeling very proud for the rest of the day.
I don’t know whether Auburn North is the best school in NSW but what I certainly do know is that this year we have we have all worked especially hard to develop a school learning community of the very highest standing, a learning community that is a model for what public schools can achieve when its students, staff and parents lead, teach, learn and parent together in perfect harmony.
I have no doubt that every year at Auburn North was successful before I arrived in 2000 and I certainly know that every year since 2000 has been very successful for Auburn North students, staff and parents. However, I believe all the evidence clearly demonstrates that this year has been our school’s most harmonious and successful year. It has simply been an outstanding year. I also believe this year has been our school’s HAPPIEST year. I know it has been for me.
All year I have had the great pleasure of being surrounded by happy, positive, delightful and committed:
- Leaders
- Teachers
- Office Administration Staff
- Mrs Daujotis
- Mr Dave, Mr Ray and Johnny
- Parents
As a result of our students being taught, parented and cared for by theses fabulous adults, I believe our students have enjoyed their happiest year and most successful year since they started at Auburn North Public School.
While I don’t know if our school is the best school in the state (I’m sure all NSW principals believe their school is the best in NSW) I will take the opportunity during next week’s special Year 3–Year 6 presentation day assembly to explain in detail why I believe 2018 has been our school’s most outstanding year for students, staff and parents since my arrival at this wonderful school.
An excerpt from my presentation day principal’s address will be included in our final 2018 newsletter which will go home in week 10.
Mark Harris
Principal
Congratulations to the 86 Gold Badge recipients from the latest Gold Badge assembly.
All students who have received a Gold Badge this year will be attending the Gold Badge movie reward at Reading Cinemas on Monday 17 December.

On the 26th of November, 3W and all of Year 3 visited Featherdale Wildlife Park for an exciting excursion! We had a fantastic day exploring the park, where we got to see native Australian animals such as the koala, kangaroo, wombat, dingo and echidna.
Our favourite part of the day was the Learning Burrow, where we got to carefully touch and pat a koala, a tawny frogmouth, a children's python and a shingleback lizard! Our friendly guide taught as a lot about these animals, and we even had the chance to ask our own questions.
3W can't wait to plan and compose a narrative about our adventure to Featherdale. We will turn our narrative into an exciting graphic novel where we will learn all about storyboarding, camera angles and captions.
Learning in 5HM
In literacy this term we have been practicing our public speaking skills. We have chosen one of the following 3 topics to prepare a speech on: War or Waste, Dreaming for the Future and A Day to Remember. We have learnt about the key components of speech writing and delivery: Matter, Method and Manner. We appreciated practicing our speech in front of our class mates and receiving valuable feedback!

In Science we learnt about light and electricity. We had a group task to complete. Our challenge was to design a working torch for a specific purpose. We ensured that we collaboratively planned and prepared all the materials we needed, including purchasing batteries, wires and light bulbs. We were definitely up to the challenge!
