Dear Parents,
As you know, the weather over the past three weeks has been terrible. Despite the weather, I’m delighted that the atrocious conditions have not prevented our teachers from continuing to develop and implement outstanding programs and lessons for their students.
At the same time, the other members of our school’s staff and I are so proud of our students who have not allowed the weather to impact on their love of school, their love of learning, and their commitment to always do their best in all school endeavours.
EXPLANATION of OUR SCHOOL’S NARRATIVE (STORY)
A few years ago our school learning community developed our school’s Narrative, or Story. I believe the Narrative it is as true today as the day it was developed. Our school’s Narrative is:
“We believe we have developed a school learning community that is something special, something wonderful, something exceptional. We believe our school community appreciates each individual’s uniqueness and calls forth their potential and provides opportunities for human fulfilment.
We believe our school community serves as a model for what education can become when students, staff, and parents learn, teach, and parent together in perfect harmony to achieve THEIR Vision.”
EXPLANATION of OUR SCHOOL’S THEME
We are enormously proud that our school is one of the most multicultural schools in Australia and, in fact, the world. Our students and their families come from more than 60 different countries and speak more than 40 different languages. Our school really is the 'United Nations'.
From 2000 our school’s Theme has been Auburn North provides ‘The Best of All Worlds'. This theme reflected the fact that our school was blessed with a rich tapestry of cultures from around the world, where we respected each other and celebrated our own and each other's cultures.
This theme also reflected the fact that all members of our community believed that our learning community was multiculturalism at its very best and multiculturalism at its most successful.
We believed that only in an inclusive public school like Auburn North Public School could students learn one of life's most important lessons. That lesson was that regardless of a person's culture, religion, or colour we are all essentially the same, that we all want to live safe, happy, healthy, and successful lives.
While our multi-award-winning school had been recognised and acknowledged as an outstanding and high-performing learning community between 2000 and 2014, in 2015 all members of our community believed that we must always be moving FORWARD. They believed that we must always keep our eyes, ears, and minds open for better and more effective ways to maximise leadership, teaching, learning, and parent engagement outcomes in our school.
Therefore, our learning community decided that while it was very important that Auburn North students continue to learn one of life's most important lessons and that they continue to learn and develop outstanding knowledge, skills and attitudes in Literacy, numeracy, and all other subject areas, it was also very important that our students develop outstanding Technology Skills and 21st Century Skills to be successful now and in the future in our rapidly changing world.
We revised our school Theme and further developed and improved our leadership, teaching, learning and parent engagement programs and practices to reflect this development. Since 2015 our school theme has been Auburn North provides “The Best of All Worlds for 21st Century Learners”.
Therefore, to be high achieving people now and in the future our students this year and in the future will be celebrating their own and each other's cultures focussing on maximising their 'Basic Skills', 'Technology Skills', and their '21st Century Skills'.
ARRIVING AT SCHOOL EACH DAY
We have reviewed the procedures communicated to you last week in terms of students arriving at school each day. Please read our new morning procedures below.
8:20am – 8:30am | Students will be supervised just inside these gates during this time. |
From 8:30am |
Dry weather · K-1 students will move to the COLA area. · 2-6 students will move to the Lower Primary Asphalt area. · The canteen will be open for lunch orders from 8:30am-8:50am. Wet weather · All students will move to the COLA area if it is raining lightly. · All students will move to classrooms if it is raining heavily. · The canteen will be open for lunch orders from 8:30am-8:50am. |
9am | It is very important that all students arrive at school by 9am each day. Students arriving after 9am will need to walk to the office for a late pass. |
LEAVING SCHOOL EACH DAY
School finishes at 3pm and we would greatly appreciate it if all students could be collected at this time. If you are running late to collect your child, could you please call the office by 2:45pm to inform the school.
Some Parents sometimes come to school to collect their children after 2.30pm. Please understand, I dont want children to leave their classrooms between 2.30-3pm.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT and PARENT PARTICIPATION in THEIR CHILDREN’S LEARNING
Research and other evidence clearly show students achieve greater success in school if parents are engaged in their children’s education and participate in their childrens learning. The research demonstrates if parents are involved in their children’s schooling and learning, children tend to:
· Be motivated learners.
· Have high educational aspirations.
· Achieve very good academic results.
· Have high self-esteem.
These are some of the reasons why Auburn North has always made parent engagement and participation in their children’s education one of our school’s most important priorities.
It was gratifying to see the high number of parents who came to school yesterday afternoon to participate in the Parent-Teacher meetings or who participated by viewing the sessions on the parent information videos.
Our school provides our parents with a variety of opportunities to further develop their confidence, knowledge, and skills to become active participants in their children’s learning. These include:
· Parent-Teacher meetings.
· Three-Way Conferences twice each year.
· SeeSaw, to facilitate communication between teachers and parents.
· Schoolzine
One of our most outstanding parent programs is our award-winning ‘Parents as Partners in Learning Program’. This is a grade-based program where two or three literacy and numeracy workshops, are organised for the parents who have children in our school.
The workshops are connected to grade learning targets and during these workshops, parents participate in learning activities that are the same as those in which their children participate.
Parents are provided with resources to use at home with their children, and on our school’s website parents can watch videos of Auburn North teachers and students using the teaching and learning strategies and resources.
Due to COVID-19, this wonderful program has not been able to operate in the past two years. However, we hope to implement it in term 2 and term 3 this year.

KA Literacy
This term, KA have been learning to say and write lower-case and capital letters. We have had so much fun writing each letter we learn using mini whiteboards, chalks, crayons and textas.
After we learn to say and write the letters, we also complete a craft that goes with it. We proudly display these artworks in our classroom.

6E have had an excellent start to the year, with everyone settling in well and working together to achieve our best. Our class family has got to know one another better and we have already made some great memories together!
As well as working on our reading comprehension and prediction skills, we have been enjoying studying the different forces and laws of motion in science. We have also been inspired by the famous scientist Isaac Newton and his work on forces.
As a class, we made water clocks that use the force of gravity, an activity he did when he was young.
We have also loved using hands-on materials to demonstrate our knowledge of fractions during maths lessons and shown our creative flair with some visual art activities.

Eco Warriors Newsletter Report
This year, our wonderful Eco Warrior recycling and composting programs continue, helping to make ANPS a super sustainable school. Students are getting better at sorting their rubbish into landfill (red bin), comingled recycling (yellow bin) and organics (food and paper – green bin).
All organic waste collected in the green bins is fed to our pet worms who live in our Subpod worm farms (pictured below). Our hungry pet worms eat all of these food scraps, turning them into rich, new soil to fertilise our beautiful school gardens.
Thank you to our wonderful years 3-6 students on the Eco Warrior team who volunteer their time to feed our hungry worms every week. This stops huge amounts of food waste from going into landfill which produces dangerous greenhouses gasses that are warming our planet and negativley changing our climate.
Did you know that food waste rotting in landfill makes a harmful greenhouse gas called methane, which is 25 times WORSE for the planet than carbon dioxide from cars? Composting your food waste is an extremely effective way to fight global warming and climate change.
You can do your bit for your children’s future at home by collecting your family’s food waste in a compost bin to fertilise your garden. Let’s all do our bit to help our planet!
