Dear Parents,
Recently I read an education article that was based on research conducted by a person who used to be a classroom teacher but is now a university researcher. The research and the article were about how teachers can optimise their classroom cultures and classrooms to assist students achieve great wellbeing and learning outcomes.
The author’s research found that an appropriate “VIBE” in classrooms is necessary to ensure students achieve outstanding outcomes. He defined ‘classroom vibe’ as:
“The learning focused atmosphere, or the energy within a classroom that’s experienced by students … it’s really the mood or the character of a classroom.”
The highlight of my days at Auburn North are those times when I pop into classrooms to feel and enjoy the VIBE in each room. Features of the VIBE I feel and see in every Auburn North classroom include:
· Happy sounds and happy teachers and students.
· Trusting, friendly, and respectful relationships and respectful communication.
· Attractive and stimulating learning environments.
· High-quality, explicit, and engaging teaching.
· Teachers using their delightful personalities, abilities, and skills to motivate and inspire students, and to ‘fan the flames of wonder’ in their students.
· Engaged students who love learning and who are always wanting to do their very best.
· Successful, proud learners.
I believe Auburn North is the “GATEWAY TO SUCCESS” for our students and our classrooms and their VIBES are integral to this success,
‘AUBURN NORTH SPORTS CENTRE’
While we continue to focus on the teaching and learning in our classrooms, we also need to continue to improve facilities outside the classroom to ensure all environments in our school are welcoming and stimulating for our students.
We are excited to let you know that by the beginning of Term 4 this year the following projects will be completed:
· ‘The Auburn North Sports Centre’ – Our old Basketball court and Newcombe Ball court are going to be redeveloped. They will become attractive and practical courts for our Kindy-Year 6 physical education lessons and sports. They will also be used for outdoor lessons such as some maths lessons.
· New colourful seats will be installed in the COLA area for students AND parents.
· The COLA will be resurfaced.
· New digital school signs will be installed just inside our gates on Parramatta Road and on Adderley Street.

CLASS REPORTS – KZ and 3M
For your reading pleasure please find attached to this newsletter class reports by KZ and 3M. I would like to thank KZ students and their teacher, Ms Zeidan, and the 3M students and their teacher, Ms Mao.
What a fantastic start to Term 2 for our KZ students! Students have returned to Term 2 with a positive approach to their learning. Boys and girls are so excited to continue to grow and reach their individual goals across all learning areas.
Literacy
Our phonics, reading and writing program commenced during Week 1 with students already demonstrating commitment to achieving their goals. This term, students are learning to use their knowledge of sounds taught during phonics to read and write words. Our learning includes practising to say and write sounds, read level 1 texts and write sentences with a capital letter, spaces and a full stop.
Friendship
Starting Kindergarten has been a big adventure! A part of our journey has been forming many great and new friendships with peers in the classroom and on the playground. We always use kind words to our friends, play safely and share our things.
ANCLIC
One of KZ’s favourite learning time is our fortnightly visits to the ANCLIC. Students have shown character, collaboration and critical thinking when learning to use a mouse on a computer. Students have already learned how to click, scroll and drag using a mouse. Each fortnight, students also borrow a new book to take home and enjoy with their families. Some of our favourite books to borrow, include books about planets, animals and dinosaurs!

Class Report: 3M
We have had a magnificent Term 1 in 3M! We worked hard to achieve success across all learning areas and have also developed a sense of connectedness by fostering close and positive friendships along the way. 3M have resumed Term 2 with an excitement and vigour to explore further learning opportunities.
Literacy
In literacy, we have been learning about two text-types: expositions and narratives.
In expositions, we have harnessed techniques such as persuasive sentence starters, high modality language and rhetorical questions to captivate our audience. In narratives, we have been weaving our incredible imaginations into creative stories. We have learned various strategies to enhance our writing, such as using onomatopoeia, effective dialogue and adding adjectives and adverbs. We are very proud of our accomplishments in writing thus far!
Numeracy
In numeracy, we have been learning to collaborate when solving real-world challenges. There are always conversations filled with energy and enthusiasm as we apply our critical thinking and problem-solving skills to engage in mathematical tasks. This term, we are looking forward to learning about 3D Objects, Mass and Area!
