Dear Parents,
ARTS ALIVE CHORAL FESTIVAL
This year, Auburn North had the opportunity to participate in the 'Arts Alive Choral Festival' program. The festival was held in the function centre in the iconic civic landmark, Sydney Town Hall, where students were surrounded by the spectacular and awe-inspiring heritage architecture.
The Arts Alive Choral Festival provides the opportunity for public schools to come together annually and showcase high-quality individual items and combined school choirs.
The combined choir included 12 schools from across Sydney singing seven songs in unison. The combined choir included 30 of our dedicated Auburn North Public School students across grades 3 to 6. The teachers involved in this musical event were Mrs McBriarty, Mrs Denning, Mrs Aholelei, and Mrs Bourizk.
Many teachers and parents attended the event as audience members to show their support and enjoy the performance. They had the privilege of seeing our students perform the songs below:
- I Vow to Thee My Country: combined choir
- Songs with my Skateboard
- Ave Maria
- Australian Folksong Medley
- Brolga Dance
- The Lighthouse
- Welcome the Day
- Southern Sky
The songs selected showcased the students’ ability to utilise their musical range through harmony, dynamics, and consistent melody. To ensure that students had effective musical range, prior to the event they participated in weekly rehearsals and a full day rehearsal at the Sydney Olympic Park.
On the day of the event, our students rehearsed with the combined choir in the concert hall. Students were confident in their ability to perform their parts and had memorised all lyrics of the seven songs.
After the rehearsal, the choir enjoyed some sunlight and fresh air in Hyde Park and before the big event, the ANPS musical team enjoyed a delightful dinner of pizza and gelato!
Throughout the entire day, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and were in high spirits. Some of the comments our students made were:
- "This is the best day of my life."
- "I want to join the choir next year."
- "That was the most amazing experience ."
- "We feel like Kings and Queens performing in our castle."
All teachers and parents were so proud of our Auburn North Arts Alive choir, the way they conducted themselves and the way they performed.
We would also like think Ms Mao, Ms Lau, Ms McGrory, Ms Harvey-Latham, and Mrs Clift for attending the concert and supporting our students and staff.
Every day for the past two weeks 120 of our year 2 – year 6 students have participated in the ‘Learn to Swim Program’. During that time, every studentr has learned to swim and become more confident when swimming. Congratulations girls and boys.
I would like to thank Ms Harvey-Latham for doing an excellent job coordinating this very important program. I would like to thank Ms Whittaker and Mr Prendergast for teaching some of our students how to swim, and I thank Mrs Ellis, Mrs Rashtia, Mrs Khan, and Mrs Abrar for assisting some of our students.

CLASS REPORTS
For your reading pleasure please find attached to this newsletter, class reports from 2K and 1H . We would like to thank the 2K students and their teacher, Ms McGrory, and the 1H students and their teacher, Ms Wang.
In maths we are learning efficient addition and subtraction strategies such as the split strategy! These strategies help us to add and subtract large numbers quickly. We have also learned about money - we opened up 2Kmart for the day where we got to save our money, count it carefully and buy different toys! Miss McGrory made some of the toys very expensive. Luckily we are great at counting and could add up enough money to buy them anyway!
In 2K we love all learning but we have a favourite. Our favourite thing to learn about is computers! We have learned how to use an internet browser including how to use multiple tabs, follow a link and visit a URL. This is super handy when Miss McGrory asks us to find out more information about a topic, such as what Auburn North used to look like in our history unit. This term we have been learning about word processing programs and how to format our writing. We are even publishing our narratives on the computer!
Most importantly, in 2K we show all of the ANPS values. Our mission is for everyone in 2K to feel happy, comfortable and excited about their learning. We look after each other by showing the values which means everyone feels great and we have fun! We’d better get back to our learning now – thanks for reading all about 2K!

Day in the life of 1H. The day begins in literacy groups where we read a new text each week and learn to write narratives. Miss Wang is always blown away by the problem-solving skills the Year 1s have in their resolutions. Every catastrophe is accounted for!
Then, in maths have been learning about place value. We are able to partition two-digit numbers into tens and ones using bundles of paddle pop sticks and MAB blocks.
After, we head to the library to use Microsoft Word on the computers and laptops. Everyone knows how to log in to the computer, use and save our writing on the network independently. Our favourite part is having our work printed to show our families. We have also been using Bluebots to program complex paths for them to travel on.
Finally, on Friday afternoons, we have social skills hour where we get an opportunity to engage with our peers from across the grade and solve problems ourselves. We are Year 2s in training, not too much longer till you see us on the other side of the school!
