Dear Parents,
OUTSTANDING NAPLAN RESULTS
As you know, our 2021-2025 school Vision for our school is:
'To be a truly outstanding future-focused learning community.'
We have importantly and strategically defined what we mean by ‘future-focused’, and we have developed a set of assessment measures to determine if we have become ‘truly outstanding’.
The Vision means that we believe if our students are going to be successful today, tomorrow, and become lifelong learners then between now and the time they graduate from Auburn North they must develop OUTSTANDING:
- 'Basic Skills' in Literacy and Numeracy.
- 'Technology Skills'.
- '2lst Century Skills' such as critical and creative thinking, and collaboration.
Our K-6 teachers continually assess each student's learning to assess each student’s progress in each of these areas and to ensure future programs meet each student's immediate and future needs and interests.
At the end of last term and during this term I met all school executive leaders to receive and discuss information regarding the quality of each K-6 student's 'Basic Skills' in literacy and numeracy. I am very pleased to inform you that each one of our 660 students is in the process of developing high-quality 'Basic Skills' and have become or are in the process of becoming very successful learners.
Another very important indicator of the quality of our student's 'Basic Skills' is our National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results for our students who are in year 3 and year 5. Last week we received our 2022 results. I am delighted and very proud to inform you that this year’s results are exceptional. They include:
- Our Year 3 students outperformed all Similar Schools in NSW in all five areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.
- Our Year 5 students outperformed all Similar Schools in NSW in all five areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.
- Our Year 3 students outperformed the State Average in all five areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.
- Our Year 5 students outperformed the State Average in the areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and were only two points below in Numeracy.
I believe these outstanding NAPLAN performances and our excellent K-6 classroom learning outcomes are the result of a combination of factors that include:
- Our exceptional leaders and teachers, who are the best and hardest working team of educators I have seen assembled in any school in my 43 years in education.
- We have developed and implemented exemplary research and evidenced-based teaching and learning programs.
- Our delightful students, who are so motivated to always try their hardest and do their very best in their learning.
- Our wonderful parents, who will do anything to support our school and their children's wellbeing and learning.
- Our Auburn North family of students, staff, and parents, who live and learn together in perfect harmony.
I am so proud to be to be a member of the Auburn North FAMILY. I hope you feel the same way.

2022 BOOK WEEK PROGRAM
On Tuesday 30th August, Auburn North staff, students, and parents celebrated Book Week. There were character parades, scavenger hunts, and a wide range of fun activities in classrooms.
Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia. The theme of Book Week this year was ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’ This theme encouraged students to consider what their dreams are and think about what steps they need to take to achieve their dream.
Throughout the day there were character parades, where students and teachers had an opportunity to show off their wonderful and creative costumes. Students and teachers were inspired by their costumes and paraded up and down the hall to music.
K-2 students participated in scavenger hunt rotations. Students completed activities such as reading a shortlisted book, role play using characters from a story, and puzzles. At each rotation, classes collected a mystery puzzle piece and at the end of the scavenger hunt they pieced them together to reveal the final picture.
3-6 students also participated in a scavenger hunt. They worked in small groups to answer a set of questions using clues around the school to help them answer the questions.
Each grade produced some amazing artworks which are now displayed in the library. These artworks are related to one of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) shortlisted books.
We are looking forward to celebrating again next year!

2N have been having a great Term 3, especially with all of the exciting things that have been happening this term! We loved celebrating Book Week and dressing up as our favourite book characters. We went on a really fun scavenger hunt where we participated in different activities like listening to Mrs Clift read the ‘Walk of the Whales’, Guess Who?, Hoop Showdown, Egg and Spoon Race and a puzzle relay. Then we had an exciting character parade where we got to show off our awesome costumes to our families. We loved it!
In the classroom for Maths, we have been learning to count money. We used a catalogue to see what items we wanted to buy and then we had to determine if we had enough money to buy them. We had to use our 21st Century learning skills of critical thinking and creativity to make the amount of money. We wish we could have really bought those items!
We cannot believe there are only a few weeks left of Term 3 and then we will be going into Term 4 and soon enough, we will be promoted to Year 3! We cannot wait to keep learning more and getting our brains nice and sweaty. We look forward to celebrating all of our achievements with our families at our three-way conferences.

What a brilliant effort the KE students have shown in Term 3! The anticipated day of Book Week was a huge success with students dressed up as pirates, princesses and superheroes. KE students had the chance to read the Short-Listed Book, ‘Stellarphant’ and made spectacular frames which can be viewed in our school’s library. We participated in a very adventurous scavenger hunt and even had the chance to dance in the hall!
KE was certainly feeling cosy on Cosy Clothes Day! With the forecast feeling chilly and absolutely freezing this season, we had a great opportunity to snuggle up in our favourite warm clothes and write about volcanoes!
We have been feeling ecstatic on Wednesdays with our wonderful Year 6 leaders coordinating Peer Support with Kindergarten! KE have been participating in all sorts of fun activities and games with Year 6 including the famous Hula Hoop Hop! We thank our Year 6 leaders for doing an extraordinary job in leading sports sessions with Kindy!
KE have been amazing at making friendships in the classroom and on the playground. We have been practising one of the ANPS values of friendship and have been kind to all our friends every day. We always smile at each other and use positive words to help build stronger friendships which will last a lifetime!
