Dear Parents,
The Auburn North staff would like to welcome you back to school for term 4. We would also like to thank and congratulate you for ensuring that your children returned to school perfectly dressed in their school uniforms and committed to making this term their most successful term since beginning in OUR school.
Term 4 is the most important term for our K-6 students because it is the term when they:
- Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities that they require if they are to be promoted to a higher grade or high school next year and succeed in that higher grade or high school from the first day of the 2023 school year.
- Try so hard to exceed their full potential at their respective stages of development so that their Semester 2 reports are the very best they have ever received.
- Receive their Gold Badges (or continue to wear their gold badges) and attend the Cinema.
- Attend Principal's Morning Tea for being presented with 60 Commendations.
I am sure this term is going to be a very happy, productive, and successful term for our students, staff, and parents.
New School Sign on Parramatta Road
If you have recently driven down Parramatta Road or walked past our school over the past two weeks, you would have seen our very modern new school sign on Parramatta Road. It will capture the attention of anyone who travels past our school and it will be used to promote our outstanding school learning community.
I would like to thank Mrs Acar, our Business Manager, who spent a great deal of time and effort coordinating the installation of the new sign.
We expect to have an identical sign installed in the front of our school on Adderley Street sometime next year.
Attendance Reminder and Arriving at School from 8.30am – 8.55am
We all agree that your child’s education is so important and that regular attendance at school is essential if they are to reach their full academic, emotional, and social potential. I would like to remind you that all school-aged children must attend school every school day unless they are unwell or have a legitimate reason for being absent from school.
Arriving at school on time every school day is also very important. This ensures children have a settled and successful start to the school day and do not miss out on important announcements during the morning assemblies AND very important learning activities in the morning literacy sessions. It also sends a powerful message to your children that you value education and you want the very best for your child.
Auburn North students should arrive at Auburn North between 8.30am – 8.55am every day ready for our morning assemblies that start at 8.55am.
I thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Student Safety
To ensure the safety of your children and our students I ask you:
- To cross Parramatta Road safely by using the overhead bridge.
- To cross Adderley Street safely by using the pedestrian crossing.
I also remind you that parents are not allowed to:
- Do U-turns on Adderley Street as this is illegal and unsafe.
- Double-park or wait to park in front of the gate on Adderley Street as this is illegal and blocks traffic, making it unsafe for children and adults.
I thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Class Reports
Please enjoy the attached Class Report from 3W and 1R . I would like to thank 3W and 1R students and their teachers Ms Whitaker and Mrs Raad.
Mark Harris
Principal
We have had a terrific start to Term 4 in the 3W classroom! Every student has started the new term with an eagerness to learn and achieve their personal best!
Literacy
This semester during reading, we have had the opportunity to read a variety of quality picture books. We then participate in an engaging reading lesson based on the text. This week, we read the picture book Adelaide’s Secret World by Elise Hurst. Students had the opportunity to independently read the text themselves and participate in rich learning opportunities that developed their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
This term for writing, we are learning to write a new text type, discussions. Discussions are a type of persuasive text in which you argue both sides of an opinion. Students will be encouraged to consider other perspectives and write persuasively to support these differing opinions. They will also learn to incorporate research to support their reasons! Isn’t that exciting? 3W are very much looking forward to taking their persuasive writing skills to the next level!
Numeracy
This week in numeracy we have been learning about chance. The students in 3W conducted chance experiments in which they predicted possible outcomes, recorded results and reflected on the likelihood of an event occurring.
We also practised our Year 3 mathematics targets. In particular, we revised how to add two-, three- and four-digit numbers together using a variety of different strategies. We are learning to check if an answer is correct by solving a number problem using more than one strategy. This is helping us to identify if we have made an error.
Sport
Every Monday afternoon, we have a structured sport lesson. Despite the frequent rain, we have managed to be quite lucky with the weather on our sport days and so we have been able to get outside! All year, students have been developing their fundamental movement skills as they participate in movement challenges. In Term 4, students will learn about sportsmanship and how to play fairly as they participate in new movement challenges.

1R have had a wonderful start to Term 4! All students were excited to return to Auburn North to see their friends and continue their learning. 1R have been working as a team to achieve their dreams!
Digital Technology:
This semester, 1R have been learning to program a Blue Bot using an iPad! Students have learnt how to program the Blue Bot to follow a set of instructions. All the students in 1R have shown critical thinking and determination during these digital technology lessons. They have also used their knowledge of positional language and direction to assist them.
Maths:
1R have been working hard to achieve their maths goals. All students are learning about place value and have been learning to partition two-digit numbers. Once a week, all Year 1 students participate in maths group. During these lessons, students have been learning their doubles and halves facts, skip counting and equal groups.
Creative Arts:
This term, 1R are exploring the art form of drama. Students have been exploring how to expresses dramatic meaning through movement and voice. During these lessons, 1R read a high quality picture book and engage in a number of drama activities.
We are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring!
