Dear Parents,
In consultation with our teachers, our executive leadership team decided to try something new this year regarding our Term 1 Parent-Teacher Meetings. I am delighted to write that the new version of our Parent-Teacher Meetings program last week was an outstanding success.
The program and its strategies were designed to achieve a range of goals including:
- Increase the number of parents who attend these meetings compared to previous years.
- Provide parents and teachers with the opportunity to become familiar with one another.
- Provide parents with the opportunity to visit classrooms and see their children’s attractive and stimulating classroom learning environments.
- Provide parents with hard copies of information that was grade-based and detailed to enable all parents to be informed about their children's education this year and to assist them become involved in their children's learning.
- Create a SENSE OF COMMUNITY (i.e. the Auburn North FAMILY) that provided parents, students, and teachers with the opportunity to enjoy each other's company in a relaxed environment while enjoying pizza and drinks together.
More parents attended these meetings than any other meetings in the past 23 years and each teacher had the opportunity to meet the parents of the vast majority of their students.
As I walked around the COLA and spoke with parents, it was clear that all our parents were so grateful to have the chance to meet their children's wonderful teachers, collect important information, and then sit, relax, and chat with other parents.
The program was productive and memorable for all teachers and for all the parents and students who attended. The program also laid the foundation for a very, very successful school year for all members of our FAMILY.
OUR 2021 – 2025 SCHOOL VISION and PLAN
Like all other NSW public schools, at the end of 2020 our school conducted a thorough consultation process to assist in the development of our 2021 – 2025 Strategic Improvement Plan.
The purpose of the consultation process was to:
- Determine what our school learning community was doing well in the areas of leadership, teaching, student wellbeing, student learning, and parent engagement.
- Identify ways our school could improve in these five areas.
- Develop a five-year improvement plan to become an even better school for students, staff, and parents.
This process included parent surveys, meetings with groups of students, staff surveys, and meetings with groups of teachers.
Our 2021 – 2025 Strategic Improvement Plan includes our Vision, our Mission, our Strategic Directions, our Improvement Measures, and information about some of the programs and practices we will be implementing to achieve our vision.
Our 2021 – 2025 Vision is:
“To be a truly outstanding future-focused learning community for all members of the Auburn North Family.”
Importantly, we have defined what ‘future-focused’ means in our Auburn North context and developed Targets to determine if we have become ‘truly outstanding’.
At Auburn North we believe if our students are going to be successful today and tomorrow, and become successful lifelong learners then then they need to develop outstanding:
- Basic Skills in literacy and numeracy;
- Technology Skills; and
- 21st Century Skills such as collaboration, and critical and creative thinking.
We also believe if our students are going to be successful, happy young people they need to live and breathe our six school values of respect, kindness, fairness, honesty, friendship, and responsibility.
Our school learning community believes our leaders, teachers, and parents need to develop the confidence, knowledge, and skills if our students are going to develop the skill set above, and if they are going to live and breathe of values.
A range of programs for leaders, teachers, and parents have been implemented and will continue to be developed and implemented to assist them develop their capacity to assist our students.
A copy of the 2021-2025 Strategic Improvement Plan can be found on our school website.
2023 SCHOOL SAYING
Each year our school develops a ‘SCHOOL SAYING’. The purpose of the ‘School Saying’ is to provide students with a clear focus for their learning, attitude, and behaviour for that particular year. During the first two weeks of each school year, students, staff, and parents can nominate ‘Sayings’ to be considered for selection.
I am very pleased to inform you that our 2023 Saying was suggested by Ms Hamm, one of our teachers. Our 2023 School Saying is:
“At Auburn North we never rest,
So let’s make 2023 better than the BEST.”
I know that each of our students will soon start developing their GOALS to assist them make 2023 their very best year since starting at Auburn North. I also know their wonderful teachers are in the process of developing high-quality, engaging, harmonious class families that will support each student achieve their BEST in 2023.
