Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you and your families are well.
Last week I received an email from a former Auburn North teacher. The teacher had taught at Auburn North for seven years but left a few years ago to teach in a school much closer to her home.
I would like to share some of her reflections with you. The excerpts are reproduced below.
“Hi Mark,
I hope this email finds you well. It has been a while since I've stepped foot onto the soil of Auburn North. I worked with you all for 7 years of my early career. The staff and students have never been far from my thoughts though. I often think of ANPS and the wonderful beginning it gave me as a teacher.
When I first started at Auburn North and you offered me a position, you told me that I would receive the best professional development experience that any school could offer. I remember you sat in on a lesson and observed my teaching. You always said that you handpicked only the best teachers and that I was one of a few teachers out of many who applied to your temporary position advertisement that was lucky enough to succeed in gaining a position.
What you told me was true. When I worked at ANPS, I received the best professional development. I learnt so much about the art and science of teaching, such as learning intentions, success criteria, explicit teaching, differentiating small group work, and reading instruction.
I had opportunities to visit my colleagues in class to observe and learn. Best of all, we would collaborate on our programs and strive for only the best for our students by analysing student learning data and developing programs and lessons based on the data.
It all gave me the best foundation and helped me become the teacher I am today.
There is still learning that we did at Auburn North years ago that I share with my new colleagues and as a result they benefit from the knowledge that was shared. Auburn North prepared me not only to be a great teacher but also how to use my skills to help and lead others.
I really was very blessed to have worked with so many amazing professionals. I think back on all the people I have worked with, learned with, and taught with. It really is the ‘Best of All Worlds.
I miss the beautiful families, smiling faces of so many different backgrounds and the appreciation of the work that we do. The student behaviour was respectful and responsible.
I think Gold Badge assemblies and Community Festival programs were some of my favourite times to celebrate our students and families.”
The special qualities the former Auburn North teacher has highlighted above certainly were features of our school learning community when she was teaching at Auburn North. Those same special qualities remain features of our school today.
I think all our students, staff, and parents are fortunate to be vital members of our special Auburn North FAMILY.

2B have enjoyed many fun and engaging learning this term. Students have been making tremendous progress in all areas of learning. We have been learning to write about different countries around the world in literacy and learning about Earths Natural Resources in Science.
Literacy
In literacy in Term 2, students have been writing about information reports about countries around the world. So far, the countries that students have written about included Spain, France, Thailand and Japan. Students have been so excited learning about the different languages, cuisines, landmarks, festivals and incredible interesting facts. 2B have also enjoyed continuing their learning of phonics and reading different books using the Decodable Readers Australia collection.
Numeracy
During maths, 2B students have been learning different addition and subtraction strategies using the jump strategy. We enjoyed a fun and engaging lesson making potions on volume and capacity. Students used resources such as cups measuring the volume of the ingredients to make our potions. 2B are very excited to continue their learning for the remainder of Term 2.

KW Newsletter
It has been an incredible Term 2 in the KW classroom. I am blown away by the OUTSTANDING progress these Kindergarten students have made in their learning.
Reading
In reading, KW students are excitedly working towards their individual reading goals! They are currently learning Level 2 sounds in phonics lessons which they get to apply when they are reading decodable books. All students are able to use their knowledge of letter sounds to blend and read unfamiliar words.

Writing

Technology
Additionally, KW have been developing their technology skills by using iPads to take photos of their writing. They are learning to independently use the Seesaw app to upload these photos to Seesaw. These opportunities have given KW students a feeling of pride as they get to share their writing progress with their wonderful families.
Maths
In maths, students have regular opportunities to count to 20 and count backwards from 10. KW are getting so quick at stating the number after a particular number. We are currently learning how to state the number before a number. Across the term, KW students have learnt a variety of mathematical concepts! They have learnt to subitise numbers to 6, name the days of the week, share objects equally, create equal groups and much more!!
I cannot wait to see the progress KW make in Semester 2! I know they have the motivation and capability to achieve great things.
