Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you are well and enjoyed a very happy two-week school holiday with your children.
Our students and staff returned to school refreshed and excited about the new term of teaching, learning, and fun.
THANK YOU and FAREWELL Ms WALLACE
Today has been Ms Wallace’s last day at Auburn North after seven years of outstanding teaching and leadership. While Ms Wallace loves being a valued member of the Auburn North family, after seven years of driving more than two hours every day to and from Auburn North, Ms Wallace successfully applied for an Assistant Principal’s position in a public school much closer to her home.
During her time at Auburn North, Ms Wallace has been a classroom teacher, grade leader, an Assistant Principal, and relieving Deputy Principal Instructional Leader.
Ms Wallace is one of the most talented and skilled teachers and school leaders I have seen during my 44 years in education. She has had a profound positive impact on our school’s students, staff, and parents.
Ms Wallace is a very kind, caring, and humble person and she has used her excellent personal, interpersonal, organisational, communication, and strategic skills to assist students and teachers achieve outstanding outcomes.
As a member of our whole-school executive team, Ms Wallace has assisted our school become a high-performing school learning community. Importantly, she has led our K-6 technology programs.
We would like to thank Ms Wallace for everything she has done for all members of the Auburn North family over the past seven years. We also wish her all the very best in her future life and career.
Ms Wallace knows that “Once a member of the Auburn North Family, always a member of the Auburn North Family”, so we look forward to Ms Wallace returning to Auburn North in the future.

SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM FORMER SCHOOL CAPTAIN
Last week our school received a lovely email from a man who used to be a student captain at Auburn North Public School more than 40 years’ ago. Three of his siblings also attended Auburn North.
Please find below an extract from the email.
“Dear Auburn North Community,
My family moved away from the Auburn area while I was in my late teens. Having recently retired after spending forty-five years as a teacher myself, I was drawn back to Auburn for a little 'look-a-round" the suburb that provided me with so much joy and so many fond memories.
This led me to my old primary school and while my wife and I were standing adjacent to Parramatta Road, we were met by Frank, the school's general assistance. Frank was good enough to allow my wife and I to have a small look around the school. We were amazed by the presentation of the school and the extraordinary facilities.
As we chatted to Frank it was clear he has both pride in his workplace and is a great ambassador for the school community.
The school seems to prioritise school presentation and learning facilities as an important aspect of building pride and therefore learning environments within the school. A maintenance team was busy preparing the school for the commencement of Term 3.
I have since looked with interest at the school's website and read with great pride and satisfaction how the school has embraced its community as the "United Nations" and further, has an extraordinary list of achievements and outstanding performances.
I can see clearly how learning lies at the heart of the school and its Vision and Mission statements are lived daily.
Please pass on my congratulations to the whole school staff and, if possible, the student body. You all have much to be proud of!”
This delightful email from a former ANPS captain reflects so positively on our very special school and school learning community.
I took the opportunity to read this extract to our students, staff and parents during a morning assembly this week.

1P have had an amazing term and a wonderful year so far! We have all improved in all learning areas from moving up a reading level, to counting to 120 to making new friends. In mathematics lessons we have learnt about place value, and we can describe the value of each digit in a two-digit number.
In the classroom we have also started using our creativity skills to write very exciting narratives that include an orientation, complication, and a problem. We even created our own characters by using interesting adjectives in our stories!
We were so lucky this term because 1P were able to use robots called Blue Bots. We used our critical thinking skills to code these Blue Bots to move from one location to another location. We also learnt new technology skills such as typing!
We are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

LEARNING IN 4C
4C have had a positive, successful and FUN start to Term 3!
Literacy
This term we have began learning to write narrative texts. We began the program by carefully identifying structural and language features of a variety of narrative style texts. 4C also explored coming out with creative and unique ideas for stories to plan for using the ‘Story Mountain’ planning model. Furthermore, we have studied the use of writing techniques such as sizzling starts and the 5 senses method. We are looking forward to using these features and techniques to write interesting and well-structured narrative texts next week!
Numeracy
During numeracy lessons, students have been learning read and represent decimals. Despite this being a challenging topic, 4C have demonstrated great dedication and determination to successfully recognise the value of decimals, order decimals representing tenths and hundredths and regroup decimals to make a whole.

Excursion to Kamay Bay National Park
Last semester, 4C learned about the history of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people and Australia’s first contacts. To consolidate and expand on this learning, stage two went on an excursion to Kamay (Botany) Bay to visit the landing site of Captain James Cook and his crew. After a long bus ride to Kamay Bay National Park, we finally arrived and participated in a range of fun and engaging activities. We took a walk along the coastal shores of Kamay Bay, following the footsteps of Captain James Cook and his crew and exploring what life was like when they arrived. We also had the opportunity to explore the native flora of the area and sketched floral samples, just as Sir Joseph Banks did upon his arrival. 4C also built Gunyah shelters using sticks and twigs, just like the Aboriginal Gweagal clan did. It was such a fun day of learning filled with engaged and curious students! There were a few tired and sleepy students on the bus ride back to school.
We look forward to continuing our learning journeys this term with so many exciting topics and events still to come! Bring on term 3!
