Dear Parents,
The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you are well.
SPECIAL AWARDS FOR OUR SCHOOL
Each year a limited number of NSW public schools are selected to receive the NSW Department of Education ‘Secretary’s Awards for an Outstanding School Initiative’ and ‘Secretary’s Award for School Achievement’. From the more than 2,200 NSW public Schools, less than 20 schools received an award in each category.
I am delighted to inform you that Auburn North Public School was selected to receive BOTH a ‘Secretary’s Award for an Outstanding School Initiative’ and a ‘Secretary’s Award for School Achievement’. In fact, Auburn North was the only school in the state to be selected to receive an award in both categories.
This reflects so positively on our students, our staff, and our parents and the way in which we work together so harmoniously to create and maintain a truly outstanding school learning community.
We should all feel very proud of ourselves and each other.
The awards were for our:
• ‘Whole School Instructional Leadership to Assist All Teachers Become Their Very Best’ initiative.
• ‘Developing the Mathematician Teacher Professional Learning Project’.
Our school’s ‘Whole School Instructional Leadership to Assist All Teachers Become Their Very Best’ initiative was developed and implemented to improve the quality of the school’s instructional leadership, assist all teachers become their very best, and improve student learning outcomes.
To improve whole school instructional leadership and teacher knowledge and skills so all teachers become their very best, Auburn North developed and implemented integrated, differentiated leadership and teacher professional programs, strategies, and practices.
Our school-based data and our outstanding 2023 NAPLAN results demonstrate how the quality of our whole-school instructional leadership has assisted the quality of each teacher’s teaching to significantly improve and assisted students achieve outstanding learning outcomes.
Auburn North’s ‘Developing the Mathematician Teacher Professional Learning Project’ was developed in response to the new K-2 NSW Mathematics syllabus and draft 3-6 NSW Mathematics syllabus.
Strategies to increase teacher knowledge and skills in using the syllabuses to assist K-6 students achieve outstanding maths outcomes, especially in the ‘working mathematically’ strand, included the development of a school-based K-6 Mathematics Scope and Sequence, development of teacher professional learning program, and the purchase of resources.
Data showed the project increased the capacity of leaders and teachers to use the new syllabuses to develop exemplary maths programs and lessons and has assisted students achieve excellent maths learning outcomes.

5N have had a fabulous term so far!
We have been working so hard in our classrooms and participated in and celebrated so many events such as Peer Support, Book Week and very excitingly, practicing our Community Festival Day dance!
In literacy, we have been learning to write appropriated texts where we plan and write about fractured fairytales. One example is turning the very popular Cinderella into Cyberella by making her drop her phone instead of her golden slipper! In numeracy, we have been working hard to solve word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and this has definitely got our brains nice and sweaty.
Peer Support has been a great way for us to develop our leadership skills by explaining, demonstrating and leading sport for our Year 2 friends. We have worked collaboratively with our group to plan fun, engaging sports activities and we have really enjoyed being a leader!
This year for Book Week, we participated in a scavenger hunt where we answered questions about different books that we have read and showed off our creative costumes in a character parade. We loved these activities, especially dressing up as our favourite book characters for the day.
Community Festival Day is just around the corner and we have been working so hard to learn and perfect our dance so we can show off our talented dance moves next term! We cannot wait to celebrate Community Festival Day with our school community, enjoying the delicious food from around the world and especially performing and watching all of the dances from every class!

2W have had a fantastic year! Recently we visited the Sydney Sea Life Aquarium where we marvelled at all the colourful, incredible sea creatures. We have also been busily practising our Community Festival Day dance, placing the finishing touches with fans. Although it can be challenging to dance to the beat of the music and keep in time, we have worked so well as a team.
Can you guess which culture we will be representing?
2W have also been representing the mass of classroom objects with the units of MAB longs.
It has been a busy year but we are so excited to see what Term 4 has on offer for us.
