The other members of the Auburn North staff and I hope you and your families are well.
As you know, tomorrow is the last day of this term. I would like to congratulate all students, all staff, and all parents for working together so cohesively and effectively this term to ensure this term has been so successful for all members of our Auburn North FAMILY, especially our wonderful students.
I believe this term has laid the foundation for what will prove to be our school’s most successful year in the past 25 years.
Early indicators of a highly successful 2024 school year include:
- Inspirational and innovative leadership and teaching taking place in every classroom and every learning space every school day since the beginning of this school year.
- Motivated and engaged students trying very hard every single day to achieve their learning goals and to live and breathe our school’s values of honesty, kindness, respect, fairness, friendship, and responsibility.
- Achieving a high level of parent engagement and participation this term.
- Achieving some of the 2024 targets from our school’s 2021 – 2025 school plan.
HAPPY Eid
If you are celebrating Eid this week, the Auburn North staff hopes this time is a very special time for you, for your extended families, and for your friends.
TERM HIGHLIGHTS
Some of this term’s highlights include the following:
- Meet The Teacher Afternoon
- Three-Way Conferences
- Harmony House programs
- Gold Badge Assemblies
- Crazy Hair and Sock Day
- Harmony Day
- Year 2 ‘Parents as Partners in Learning’ workshop
- Year 6 ‘Parents as Partners in Learning’ workshop
But, of course, the major highlight this term has been the excellent teaching and learning that have taken place in every classroom every minute of every school day because that is the Auburn North way.
THREE-WAY CONFERENCES PROGRAM
Our Term 1 three-way conferences program was a great success. The parents of nearly all students were able to attend the conferences with their children and their children’s teachers.
All conferences reflected the trusting and mutually respectful relationships our teachers, students and parents have developed this year.
Teachers, students, and parents shared important information and developed goals for future student learning and achievement.
FABULOUS NEW VIDEOS ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE
At the beginning of this school year, the other members of the Auburn North staff and I decided we wanted to make our school website truly dynamic and more interesting for our parents and visitors.
We decided one way to make it more dynamic was to upload videos onto the website of important Auburn North programs and events within a week or two after the program or event.
This exciting initiative has commenced. If you visit our school’s website, you can enjoy the following 2024 videos:
- 2024 - Year 2 'Parents as Partners in Learning' – Workshop 1
- 2024 – 'Meet The Teacher Program'
- Our '2024 Kindy Students – Their First Month in BIG School'

THANK YOU ANPS STAFF TEAM.
I would like to thank our parents for their support this term and I would like to congratulate our students on their commitment to always doing their best and wanting to achieve excellence in each of their school pursuits.
I hope all members of the Auburn North FAMILY enjoy a happy and safe holiday and we look forward to all students returning to school on Tuesday 30th April.
Mark Harris
Principal
2L have had a phenomenal time of learning throughout term 1.
One of our favourite days this term was going CRAZY on our whole school Crazy Hair and Sock Day. We appreciated each other’s hair and socks which made the day very special.
In literacy, we have been learning to write informative texts on jungle animals. Students have been working super hard in their literacy groups every morning. Over the week, we write four paragraphs which includes the animal’s appearance, diet, habitat and interesting facts. We are experts at writing a paragraph which includes a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
We love celebrating Wow Wall every Wednesday morning where one student from each literacy group gets to showcase their wonderful writing on the Wow Wall!
Students are also becoming magnificent readers as we engage in fun phonics and reading lessons.
Maths is always super fun whether we are learning in the 2L classroom or in our maths groups. We have been learning addition strategies like near doubles and counting on. We also used MAB blocks to learn about place value by grouping the tens and ones.
Recording equivalent number sentences was a bit tricky at first, but we were determined and did not give up.
Maths relay was enjoyable as we competed against other students in the hall.
In history, we have been learning to identify and compare objects from the past and present. We went on a walk around the school and learnt that some buildings like F Block were built in 1924, which means they are 100 years old!

Students were fascinated with what schooling was like for the students in the past. Some students said that they would prefer to go to school in the past because they want to try special ink pens and slate boards.
Students have been involved in a variety of obstacle courses in sport to perform a range of movement skills such as galloping, hopping, sliding, skipping and leaping. Students worked in small groups and competed in relays and showed exceptional movement skills. We are looking forward to playing newcombe ball and captain ball.
With the year off to such a fabulous start we can’t wait to see what the next three terms hold for us.

4P Newsletter
4P have had a marvellous start to 2024 and each student has already made excellent progress in all areas of learning. I am extremely proud of the outstanding effort that all students have applied to ‘do their best and then a little bit more’.
Literacy
From Week 5 of this term, Year 4 have been participating in Literacy Groups. After morning assembly, Year 4 line up with their literacy group teacher. We have four literacy groups in Year 4 which are named ‘The M&M Marvels’, ‘The Lollypop Legends’, ‘The Kit Kat Crew’ and the ‘Sour Patch Squad’. We went with a sweet theme! Every day, all students in 4P have been taught by outstanding teachers in order to improve their reading, writing, spelling and grammar. Within each group, all 4P students have been participating in a text study, where they read and analyse the features of a quality text. Over a series of lessons, the students then write an informative book report that summarises the text, details a character analysis and concludes with their personal opinion about the book. 4P have thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work as they have had the opportunity to engage with, and review quality texts.
Numeracy
4P have been hard at work to achieve their best in numeracy. Every day, students have engaged in an explicit math lesson focused on a specific content area. This term, we have covered addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, whole number, patterns and algebra, area and chance. In addition to our explicit numeracy lessons, students have also had daily opportunities to achieve their Term 1 Math Targets. Students have been studying diligently to learn their 3x and 6x multiplication and division facts. They have also been learning to add and subtract five-digit numbers. Aren’t they clever! I am so proud of the individual progress every child has made.
Sport
For the very first time, Year 4 have had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Primary Schools Sports Association’ (PSSA) program. Many of the 4P students have been competing in sports including AFL, Basketball, Cricket and T-Ball. Each week, many 4P students represent our school proudly as they compete against other local schools. On the other hand, we have many 4P students who have preferred to participate in the formal sport lessons provided at school every Friday. Each child has significantly improved their fundamental movement skills as they as they practise throwing, catching, dodging and running through drills and games. We agree as a class that we thoroughly enjoy our sport time!
